Re: Stalling and stranded!!!!! Revisited

Yesterday I go to the water park, no problems. I go to leave and the rig won't start, no spark. Couple hours later and the tow truck drops the car off in front of the house. Just for grins, I try to fire it up. Boom, starts on the first try. I smoke 'er into the the driveway. Next morning same thing ...

Re: 94 SSEi Brakes

Drum brakes are not nearly as effective as discs. The majority of braking power comes from your front brakes with the rears just keeping things in line. I rarely use the rear brake on my XS11 Yamaha. Some figures claim 80%braking on the fronts and 20% on the rears and I would tend to agree with ...

Re: Crankshaft nut/bolt size.

I was gonna go after the crank position sensor to see if it cured my "die and restart" problem. Since the cam sensor is in the same area, I thinken of replacing both of them while I am at.

Re: Crankshaft nut/bolt size.

I am hunting down a new CPS for the weekend fix and have run into some confusion. Granted, I have not looked at the old one yet but checking into the part by application, I am finding CPS with two mounting bolts. I am under the impression there should be only one and it will fit into a hole in the ...

Re: Estimate to fix problems on 95

I just purchased a compressor w/clutch, condenser, accumalator, oriface tube and radiator for under $450. All new parts. I bought rear struts of of Ebay (gaberial pro-ryder) for $45, for the pair, new. I have the fronts on the way now and they ran $65 for the pair. I got tranny mounts from Rock Auto ...

Cruise control not "pulling".

This problem cropped during the return on the "trip from hell". On the run out there, cruise would hold very well, even downshifting from 4th to hold speed on steep hills. I usually rest my foot gently on the gas pedal when in cruise and I could feel the pedal go almost to the floor in some cases ...

Re: Cooling fans stay on.

No, they stay on high all the time. I was thinking of jumping the pressure swith on the AC to see if they act like they should. Its gonna be a real pisser if the AC pressure switch is bad, just had the system filled. :angry4:

Re: Cooling fans stay on.

.....I know the AC system has a pressure switch that activates the fans, AC works fine. Is there another switch on the engine?

Cooling fans stay on.

I noticied this morning when I fired up the car, both fans came on, high speed. Fan temp switch? Relay?
This car is starting to try my patience, and my wallet, but at this point, I am going to keep plugging at it till its ALL fixed (does that ever happen?) 8-[

Road trip mileage report

Just completed a 2464 mile road trip in my NA, 1995 Olds 88. Trip went from Austin TX to Fort Collins Colorado to Albuquerque NM to Austin. 167k on the car. Three people and a loaded trunk. Burned a 103 gallons of gas. Doing the math, that comes out to an average MPG of 23.89. Not bad I figure ...

Re: Stalling and stranded!!!!!

It could the CPS. I am going to replace it anyway BEFORE my return trip to Fort Collins. It gotta be cheaper to do it my driveway than having a outa town dealer do it. I am also gonna carry a known good ICM and PCM and coil pack on the next trip. 8-[

Re: Change L36 accessory (serpentine) belt

Nice write up and great visuals. :beerchug: For those running a Olds, I was able to pull the motor mount bolt and spacer without having to remove the wheel or jack up the motor, 'bout a 20 minute job. I wouldn't think a '95 Bonnie would be that much different in engine mounting than a "95 Olds, but ...

Re: Stalling and stranded!!!!!

Thanks for the responses guys. Yea, it is odd it would do it while at cruise speed. At least now I know I have to right "decel" chip in it now. I would think a bad CPS would throw some kind of code, but I guess not. I am gonna go for the run to Austin and keep my fingers crossed. There are lotsa ...

Stalling and stranded!!!!!

Major road trip, Austin to Fort Collins to Albuquerque to Austin. Left Albuquerque this morning to go back to Austin. Car stalled 4 times in 120 miles, this time at speed (75-80). It shuts down like you turn the key off, no bucking or jerking, just shuts off. Will restart in a couple of minutes. It ...

Re: Stalling problem---revisited----Recall notice found

It took a little but I found the TSB recall concerning "stalling on deceleration". The TSB covers Pontiac Bonnevilles only but I dont see where haveing an Olds makes a difference.

"Involved are certain 1995 Pontiac Bonneville vehicles equipped with a 3800 Series II engine (RPO36, Vin K) with the ...

Re: Stalling problem---revisited

I could get you that info. The TSB I mentioned is a saftey recall and if my car has never had it done, then it would be a freebie to get it done. PCM is in the passenger footwell, right?

Re: Stalling problem---revisited---FOUND A TSB #

Ok guys, need someone with access to TSB's. I found one on Alldata that may point me in the right direction to get mine (and maybe someone elses) stalling issue fixed. TSB #95c11, Dec. 94 specifically addresses stalling on deceleration, which is my problem. :helpsmilie: Anyone?

Stalling problem---revisited

Heres the specs: 95 Olds 88, NA, 165k on the clock. Heres the problem: Stalls out and restarts within a minute or less of cranking. I suspected a bad fuel pump relay, replaced it (thanks guys for telling me where to find it =D> ). All seems fine and stalling problem resurfaces. Here is what happens ...
