Re: New starter and battery and still no start.

Well, mystery solved.

We did electrical checks of the battery cables, starter and a bunch of others and they all checked out

My ac compressor had been making noise for awhile, and we brainstormed and figured out the ac compressor was not turning.
We took off the belt and it cranked right up ...

Re: New starter and battery and still no start.

The car is cranking, just weakly. How do I test these two things?

Re: New starter and battery and still no start.

Okay, so......just to reiterate, my Bonneville is a 1998 SSEi that got me to work one day then wouldn't start to go home. Jumping did no good, still wouldn't start. Tried different jump cables, wouldn't start.

Towed it to my dad's where the tools are, replaced the battery and starter, still ...

Re: New starter and battery and still no start.

The solenoid is working and the engine is cranking, it's just weak, like it's not quite there.

I am pretty sure it has to be the neg. ground connection. On the 1998 SSEi, where does the ground bolt to the engine? The battery cables are routed together in a tube and I can't figure out where the ...

New starter and battery and still no start.

Hello everyone....I noticed the headlights dimming in their reflection in the car ahead of me while I was driving to work. Sure enough, at lunch, the car doesn't start. I figured battery was going bad, so I asked for a jump, which didn't work.
Tow truck came, he tried to jump it with his booster ...

Re: Oil leak, low oil pressure

The replacement sender I installed failed after 5 months! The leak is so bad I can't drive it. Can the sender screw hole be plugged until I can get parts? I have a plug that will fit the hole, and I know the gauge wouldn't register, but will the car still turn on?

Re: 1998 SSEi rear valve cover gasket

Changed out the rear valve cover gasket and it turned out to be not so bad.

We unplugged the spark plug wires from the coil, removed the alternator, map sensors and evap stuff, and loosened the rear engine bracket. Getting the cover back on was the part I most dreaded, but as long as the rear ...

Re: Oil leak, low oil pressure

It looks like the leak is coming directly from the pressure sensor. Can anyone tell me if there is only one of these things on the ssei, or are there more?

Oil leak, low oil pressure

Replaced rear valve cover gasket on my 98 ssei, but I still have a leak and low oil pressure that falls into red after a few miles, especially in the afternoon when it's warmer.

I had been putting off the gasket repair until I had the time, feeling really discouraged that the problem hasn't gone ...

Re: 1998 SSEi rear valve cover gasket

Thank you for the straight up answer. My dad might help me out, he seems to be worried about the fuel lines the most. I'm most worried about things not fitting back together.

1998 SSEi rear valve cover gasket

Hello Board!

I would like some help in changing the rear valve cover gasket on my 1998 supercharged Bonneville.

Everything I can find demonstrates the procedure, but on the non supercharged trim. I've let it leak for too long, I believe it's affecting my power brakes and my ac and heater.

The ...

Overheating...fans not coming on

Weird bunch of events after an oil change....I've had an overheating problem for about a month, did the oil and figured that would do it. It didn't, but I discovered that the fans weren't turning on and thermostat was bad so I changed that and the coolant temp sensor just in case. Started it, and ...

98 SSEi question

Hello everyone, I have an unusual question. I'm currently driving without the supercharger belt and it seems my power brakes when out about the same time. There isn't any chance the two problems are related, is there? I just want to make sure before I change the brake booster and that ends up not ...

Fuel leak right over SC on 1998 L67 3800 SII

Hello everybody, I hope you're doing alright despite the insanity of the world at the moment!

My own personal insanity is that my SC belt shredded a few weeks ago, I've been driving it without it very gently and not often because of quarantine. While waiting to have the cash to fix it, I've noticed ...

A/C, Heater problems-Hot in the Summer, Cold in the Winter

Hello everyone.

I have a 1998 SSEi with an A/C system that I can't get blowing cold air in the summer, but is now blowing cold air, in the winter. It starts to blow hot air but it only lasts a few seconds. It seems like such an inexplicable problem to have. I am beyond frustrated. I tried to find ...

Engine struggling to turn over on start

I have a 1998 SSEi that just passed 100000 miles. You guys have helped me a lot in the past, and I'd like some help again!

Lately, when I turn the key to start the car, it struggles for a few seconds to start and then fires up. It reminds me of when I was having issues that were solved by getting a ...
