Replaced rear valve cover gasket on my 98 ssei, but I still have a leak and low oil pressure that falls into red after a few miles, especially in the afternoon when it's warmer.
I had been putting off the gasket repair until I had the time, feeling really discouraged that the problem hasn't gone away.
Any ideas on how I can find this leak?
You guys have always helped me out with my ssei for over 10 years, I just want to say thanks!

Re: Oil leak, low oil pressure
The oil pressure senders are known to go bad. You may want to start there for the pressure.
For the leak, you're going to have to clean everything up really well with brake clean and see where the leak is coming from.

It looks like the leak is coming directly from the pressure sensor. Can anyone tell me if there is only one of these things on the ssei, or are there more?

All 3800s have one as far as I know.

Re: Oil leak, low oil pressure
The replacement sender I installed failed after 5 months! The leak is so bad I can't drive it. Can the sender screw hole be plugged until I can get parts? I have a plug that will fit the hole, and I know the gauge wouldn't register, but will the car still turn on?

I had a similar problem, and it would not go away until i installed a OE Pontiac sending unit.
