Wow, so if the airbags go off they take out the dash and the windshield. :eek2:
That with a bumper and the cost to replace the air bags could total the car!

That's the point. My friend hit a deer with her CompG, and if the airbags had gone off, the car would've been totalled, but since she didn't hit the brakes before the deer hit, the bags didn't deploy. Cost $6k to fix it.

In that instance, due to the inertia exerted by the deer, and only one sensor being tripped. In a head on collision, I'm sure they would.

I was in the passenger seat. I can verify that the airbag took out the windshield. Both of us were belted and felt the airbags as opposed to the impact itself. I didn't even feel the impact even though it was on the right side of the car. The airbags caused some kind of rash/burn for us to go along with the bruises from the seat belts. In addition, the airbag broke my glasses. The red on the hood... was not there before and no car involved was red, so personally I think it is blood from somebody, I don't see what else it could be.

John, we needs to have a lil' chat about the fate of that car. There's a few things I could use off of it that can't be shipped (headliner board being one of them). Drag it to my house and let me strip it for ya

Of course it IS Memorial Day weekend...so the insurance companies are going to be quite busy...so I don't even expect to see an adjuster until the middle of the week...or even hear from one for that matter.

Unfortunately, I still have not heard from the FHP officer who is working on finding the additional witnesses that left the scene. They are really my only hope at this point that the other party will be found to be at fault for this unfortunate event...unless of course it comes down to officer's opinions from talking to both parties. Then it's still a 50/50 chance of course, considering that both of our stories are plausible...

As Matt said, the car is wrapped tightly in a tarp for the moment, sitting in his front yard.

As far as post-adjustment goes, I am going to attempt to buy the car back...and I'm currently working on getting all the proven market values for the vehicle, to maximize adjusted payoff from the insurance company. AutoTrader shows only 5 vehicles, nationwide meeting the criteria of 96-99, SSE, under 100k miles. The average price is roughly $5,700, which coincides with KBB's retail estimate of $5,700.

I'd like to get every part usable off the car, which includes, but is not limited to the new (now with only 4,000 miles) struts, very new tires, excellent condition leather, new Sony 6x9s in the rear, the installed XM, good CD HU recently purchased from Scott, maybe even the excellent condition leather steering wheel if anyone needs one. Among those things are a good L36, a functioning 4T65E (still a very strong transmission), a perfect, barely used, quiet ELC pump, and a nice set of Bosch injectors.

Anything anyone needs off of it, please speak up, it'll make any buyback option I'm given seem like a better option than giving it away to a yard whole.

See Ed, now you're making me sound like a vulture....when in reality I was merely letting John know the car can be safely stripped here at ZillaEast...and if a few choice parts happen to migrate over to another car in the stable, well, who am I to blame said parts ;)

That said, yes there are a few pieces I could use, but they are big pieces and would require either the car coming to my place, or me going to where ever the car would be :)

With that Bonne being in such good pre-accident shape, the interest from other members on this club and if he was as enterprising as Harofreak, he could turn a profit on parting it out.

Oh trust me, I have no illusions that 5700 is truly realistic...but the fact that the adjuster probably won't be as familiar with the specific car as an adjuster from the north would be....and me giving such adjuster a lot of information about the vehicle's current uncommon presence, especially with the lower mileage....who knows...it might get close.

That sucks, I know exactly how you feel, I still wish I had my car, even in wrecked form.

And just my $.02, as it is nice to have the cop write the other driver at fault, his report does not decide the whole case. In my accident, the cop wrote me at fault, but the insurance company dismissed that as soon as they saw the car.

*dang*, Sucks to see what happened.

Value wise. My 97 40th SSEi was totaled twice. 2 different insurance companies gave me $3500 and $3475 respectively. Although it is 1 model year older and had 130-143k miles.

Best of luck, And if you have any pains/severe stiffness GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM!

So, I've known since last Tuesday, but I have had a very busy week.

The other party had no active insurance.

I hauled the Bonneville to Don's house with the Avalanche last Wednesday, it's tightly covered with a tarp for the time being.

My insurance policy didn't have uninsured motorist coverage, nor did I have collision coverage.

This means that I am 100% out for all expenses incurred from an accident I didn't cause.

I'm working on re-saving money again to buy a sub-$1000 car with a bad engine/drivetrain, or some other similar issue, and use my engine/trans, etc.

I don't really have anything else to say about it.
