I think I've had 6 bags of 50lb rocks in my truck before, didn't have a problem with it. Granted my ELC doesnt work.

Re: What's the heaviest load you've carried in the trunk?
In the whole car, 6 people, 350 lb trunk (suitcases), in the range of 1150 lbs of people,...roughly just under 3/4 ton payload...this was in the 93 SE...and it actually handled it quite well.
Most I've had in the SSE so far is 4 people (800 lbs), plus what was in my trunk at the time (150 lbs) The ELC (when it was still working) actually didn't complain too much, but it definitely bottomed out a few times from the gas portion of the struts being cooked so thoroughly.
Had over a ton in the back of the avalanche, plus people before...put us roughly at 8500 lbs gross, 1500 above its 7k GVW rating.
Even its rather large brakes weren't thrilled.

I hit 710 in the trunk today.
Keep in mind big loads in the back seat don't count. That's forward of the rear 'axle'. I'm talking about trunk only loads.

Re: What's the heaviest load you've carried in the trunk?
I have a trailer too (hitch only on the SLEeper), and there's a big difference between tongue weight and trunk weight. I'd betcha my load today was heavier in the trunk than your trans and loaded trailer.
I've pulled a full ton in my trailer on several occasions, but carefully loaded to control that tongue weight. Always short trips.

Re: What's the heaviest load you've carried in the trunk?

Not bad for original ELC struts (not to mention still functioning CCR)
710 pounds, 12 ounces:

That's 100 four-pound bricks, four 50 lb bags of gravel, one 50 lb bag of sand, and a 60 lb bag of mortar mix.

I can tell you from what I know now that I'd never do this on FE1 or on FE2 without a working ELC system.

Re: What's the heaviest load you've carried in the trunk?
My shocks don't hold air, they leak down about as fast as they air up, and I start having problems with more than a child in the back seat. So I would definitely not be doing that.

Re: What's the heaviest load you've carried in the trunk?
dang that's impressive.
i've had a transmission in the back... but that's about it. i bring a lot of tools home when i visit my parents, but they prolly don't outweigh a trans. my ELC is busted and i need to finally install my little bypass kit thingy
