Ok, just a final update, and then I'll let this one go,
Thanks, members, for the additional input since my last reply!
I did finally bring the truck in to my neighborhood mechanic. He's quite good, and actually didn't charge me much more than what the sensor would have cost me without labor. He ...

Re: rusted O2 sensor
Ok, thanks for all the tips!
In looking for my best and strongest tools, I realize they're still at my cottage where I used to live in northern Michigan. The stuff I've got here is going to break or slip because it's not Craftsman or better quality.
So, I guess the shop will get this one ...

Thanks! Again it sounds like getting a solid socket on the sensor is the key. Hm.........

Re: rusted O2 sensor
Thanks Andrew and "Beast"......
Yeah, that slotted socket just doesn't seem to hold up. Maybe I have a long 7/8 impact socket and will give this one more try. I like the idea of heating up the sensor with the engine rather than with a torch. Kind of hate to clip the wires, but the code is showing a ...

rusted O2 sensor
This is pretty much an academic question at this point, because I think this is going to be a shop job,
I've pretty much given up on getting the forward O2 sensor out of my 2004 4.0 Ford Ranger. Has only about 26K on it.
The question is: What's the success percentage you members have had in ...

Nice pics and post Dick! I figured either you or Bill B probably had it in mind. (I'll send you pics and verbage related to the '94 style of front brakes if you like sometime. Let me know the sizing and kb you like for pics).

Re: How to remove calipers on '94 Bonneville?
I popped for the socket style 3/8 inch Allen head as Bill Buttermore favors (see his discussion in this thread). I really don't think a standard type Allen wrench, even with a pipe extender helper, could have done the job on one of the bolts. Thanks again, Bill, for your experienced advice!

Re: How to remove calipers on '94 Bonneville?
Ok, thanks for all the tips guys!
Seems like our '98 just had hex bolts through the calipers when I did it last.
I thought we had a TechInfo article on this, but maybe I'm just thinking of a detailed post that I couldn't find.
Ok, so off to the parts store to see what I can find

How to remove calipers on '94 Bonneville?
Am putting on new front brake rotors (old ones are warped) for my wife's '94 Bonneville. Bolts appear to be Allen or Torx, but are a bit rusty and are needing plenty of wd-40 to see what's needed.
What do I need (and size) to to get them out?
Thanks! Slug

Re: trans temp guage...where to buy, hard to install?
There used to be a member here who would make up the cable for a reasonable price his user name was "slug" I believe.
I'm still alive and well and have parts to make more cables. At cost for club members for the Actron 9110 scanner. It's a "Buttermore/slug" work-around for the extinct Actron 9115 ...

Re: Suspension "float"
Check your tire widths against factory recommendations. If your tires are too wide for the car, you can get a "steamroller" feel on the highway just as you describe.
I put extra-wide tires on my Jeep XJ once, and the highway feel was atrocious. I don't know if Bonnevilles are susceptible to this ...

Re: Complications after messing with coolant elbows
If you haven't gotten that #*$#* bolt out yet, here's one more idea--use low heat on the bolt, then when it's cooling off, get the penetrating oil on (or a mix of penetrating oil and motor oil to avoid boiling off). The cooling bolt will pull the oil into the crevices and ultimately into the threads ...

These pics and this type of information from Don (jr's3800) are invaluable and cannot be found anywhere else on the internet, I know, I've tried. The circle invariably comes back to "pontiacbonnevilleclub.com". This is true also of the rest of the technical information that has been provided in this ...

Re: Transmission Questions
I think you made a good decision.
You get a lot of delight out of keeping an old Bonneville going, but if you have more important uses for the money, then you go that route.
Check the "wanted" forum. I think I saw someone looking for most of an SSEi parts car in there.

Doesn't sound to me like parting out is an option. Not if you can't work on automotive suff where you live. You'd have a giant mess.

I don't.
Best thing is to email him through his site. He will answer you right back.
If he can't fit you up with something, he might be able to set you in the right direction.
We also have our own gearheads and admins (like "willwren"), who use and have replaced your type of transmission.

The web site for Dave Norris is:

Dave is highly regarded by one of our own members, who very expertly rebuilds GM transmissions on an "amateur" basis (meaning he's extremely good, but doesn't sell his products). After reading Dave's website, and also ...
