Re: Help with my 2001 bonneville

Jumping on the tread here, since I've had similar issues this week. It started to cool down in Indiana (40s in the morning) and I noticed that the bonnie ('01 SSEi) sounded a little weak when starting. However, it started and ran just fine for my 30 mile commute all week until Thursday. At the end ...

Re: Do headlight assemblies differ btw '01 and '03?

Thanks for the quick reply! Any advantage/disadvantage to going with a GXP pair? Is the look significantly better?

Do headlight assemblies differ btw '01 and '03?

So, after a couple years of periodically re-clearing my crusty old headlight assemblies ('01 SSEi), I've finally decided to just buy new assemblies. However, I'm confused on whether the '01 assembly is the same as an '03 assembly. Just looking online at places like AdvanceAuto, the search returns ...

Joy old cars...AC blower rattle, Gas Cap hell, wheel buzzing

Actually, I seriously do enjoy driving older vehicles. With an '01 bonne, '98 jeep, and '06 saab, I'm no stranger to upkeep and maintenance. However, the satisfaction of keeping nice vehicles on the road (and no car payments) is well worth it.

So, here's the new list of Bonneville items from the ...

Re: Removing Sunroof Cover to recover?

Perhaps i've just been lucky (and stupid), but I've had mine out twice and have never removed the glass. I simply open the sunroof most of the way, then bend and work the plastic cover until I can finally pull it forward of the glass. At that point, you can reach all the tabs that hold in the ...

Re: Fair price for headliner replacement?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking for something in the $200 range, else I'll keep spraying the glue myself for a while. Maybe I could bundle a few services (e.g., detail/wax job) for a better deal, but we'll see...

Fair price for headliner replacement?

Hello, looking for opinions from the forum. My 2001 headliner is drooping badly in the rear, getting worse with windows down this spring. The headliner on the moonroof cover is in bad shape too. My own attempts at pulling it back and spraying headliner glue has gotten me through a year or so, but is ...

Pop-pop-pop from rear when slowing to a stop...

I've noticed an odd noise from the rear of my '01 ssei when slowing to a stop, especially when I first start driving in the morning. I can only describe it as a "pop-pop-pop" noise from the driver rear. My air shocks seem fine, I've had the wheels off and don't see anything noticeably wrong in the ...

Re: Crunched up the SSEi...Estimates?

It looks absolutely excellent. I forgot how much get-up-and-go this thing has, after a month of driving the rental.

I'm supposed to get the car back today. I'm fairly excited to get her back--the 4-banger rental hasn't been cutting it for the last 3wks.

Re: Crunched up the SSEi...Estimates?

The estimate came back today...$3800 for:
-replacement door
-pull out / fix the damaged quarter panel (no bondo)
-paint/blend everything
-new wheel and tire
-alignment

It is supposed to be done in 2 weeks. I feel pretty good about the body shop; they've been honest on deals in the past and they at ...

Re: Crunched up the SSEi...Estimates?

Thanks for all the feedback! It looks like I'll have to wait a couple of days to find out, b/c the insurance adjuster doesn't seem to be in a hurry to check it out. The other driver's insurance is paying for my rental car, so I guess I'm ok with them taking a few days.

Re: Crunched up the SSEi...Estimates?

Man, I hope that you guys are wrong! I spent a good 4mo. last year looking for the right SSEi and I just put $1k into getting it all tuned up, '03 wheels and new CS4s, having the LIM work done.

Just so I'm prepared in case it comes to that...According to NADA (which I've been told is what insurance ...

Crunched up the SSEi...Estimates?

My beloved '01 SSEi was unjustly defaced by a red-light-runner over the weekend. I had a weird, uncomfy feeling when they took her to the repair shop for an estimate.

I'd be interested in the forum opinion on how much this will cost to fix. The other driver's insurance company has already accepted ...

Re: Maintenance over the weekend - Wheel hub and AirMix Actu

The new hub fixed the Service Stability System problem. ABS works fine now and all errors are gone.

The Airmix Actuator was a different story. My mechanic installed the new one but it didn't change anything. Also, he tested the voltage when adjusting the HVAC controls and noticed that the control ...

Maintenance over the weekend - Wheel hub and AirMix Actuator

I have two common issues that I'm hoping to resolve this weekend. I am looking for any tips or lessons learned that may make this go more smoothly for a amateur (mechanic skills 3 out of 10).

Issue #1 - I have the "Service Stability System" problem. Per scanner, the front driver wheel speed is not ...

Re: Maybe wheel speed sensor, maybe not...

I haven't had much time to mess with it, but noticed something else. Firstly, the abs/ses/trac warning still does not come on for a while, say 15miles. Something new happened yesterday. While driving slowly through a parkinglot, the 'low traction' light came on and the brake pedal vibrated lightly ...

Maybe wheel speed sensor, maybe not...

Just last week, I had my wheels balanced to remediate a shimmy at 65-75mph. It worked. However, a couple of days later, I got the "service stability system", ABS light, and traction light. After reviewing the forum, this seems to the symptom of a bad Wheel Speed Sensor.

I'm just curious/suspicious ...

Re: Can I tell if I have Dexcool?

You guys were right, those gaskets were failing. I'm glad I got them done. Took your advice and had the mechanic change out a few other things live value cover gaskets, thermostat, coolant hoses, etc. Also, service the transmission and lubed the intermediate shaft.

Re: Debaged today

Yeah, the 02+ badges look much nicer. The paint on my '01 is pretty decent, but I have a bit of rust bubbling under the gas cap and on the lip of the hood.

Next, I'll need to work on the headliner. Most of it is ok, but the sunshade liner is hanging off and the headliner is starting to droop near ...
