Re: 1996 SSEi slow coolant loss
I have had two '96's and two '97's....all requiring intake manifold gaskets. At what year did they figure this issue out and start making them more reliable?

Re: 1996 SSEi slow coolant loss
Thanks guys! Now, I've done the non- supercharged intakes with the plastic plenum Upper/lower (both '97's), but with the supercharger, is it the lower gasket kit and a supercharger gasket kit? Also, considered the plastic elbow, (have replaced them too) but doesn't seem to be leaking.

Re: 1996 SSEi slow coolant loss
Is there any step by step online to replace these gaskets? I think I could do it, but would feel better if I had something to go by.

1996 SSEi slow coolant loss
1996 Bonneville SSEi. Noticed lately that the coolant level in the overflow slowly keeps going down. No leaks underneath on the concrete. Opened the oil cap to find a slight orange/white colored condensation on the inside of the cap. None inside the valve cover that I could see and the none on the ...

'96 SSEi brake pedal pad
Does anyone know who sells a replacement brake pedal pad for a '96 SSEi ? Has " Anti Lock Brake System" on it, but would settle for any aftermarket new replacement. Thanks!

Thanks for the responses! Finding out this is pretty much correct for this engine!

1996 SSEi idle speed.
What is the correct idle speed for a 1996 Bonneville SSEi supercharged engine. Mine is (approx.) 1100 rpm's at cold start up and 700rpm when warmed up in park, fluctuating around 500 or 600 in gear. No check engine light is on, doesn't stall and otherwise seems to run fine! My 1997 Bonneville SE non ...

Re: 1996 Bonneville SSEi supercharger noise?
Pretty sure it's the coupler. Also be prepared to feel some grinding in the bearings of the nose.
Thanks John! If this is the case, will this cause damage to the rest of the supercharger body? or will a nose drive re-build/replace work... or replace entire supercharger unit? Gonna pull belt in the ...

1996 Bonneville SSEi supercharger noise?
Hello!
I just recently bought a 1996 Bonneville SSEI, with 155K miles. Car is nice for the miles! No rust underneath. I have had many Bonnevilles over the years but first time for a supercharged one.
There is a distinct rattle sound in the area of the supercharger nose drive. In my research, I've ...

Radio says INOP.
1997 Bonneville SE, Radio says INOP. Owners manual says this should reset in an hour with ignition on. Is this for one continuous hour. I thought it should have reset by now, but car doesn't usually get driven for an hour at a time. Any other way to reset this? I have the radio unlock code #, but ...

Re: '97 Bonneville Front Suspension Knock
Did you check the sub frame bushings?
I would inspect the sway bar mounts on the sub frame to make sure the rubber bushings are intact; also you might have a hollow sway bar. The ends on the hollow bars are prone to splitting apart. A good test for sway bar noises is to find a speed bump or ...

OK! Thanks for the info! Will check! Sub frame bushings LOOK to be OK, but I will inspect further. What about A-arm bushings?

Re: '97 Bonneville Front Suspension Knock
Ok, since originally posting this, I have recently replaced the struts, strut bearing plates, and strut mounts. I thought surely this would take care of this (needed this stuff anyway). Nope! Noise still there. Car had alignment after all this. Nothing else shows bad in steering. The noise coincides ...

Radio/clock display not lighting up
1997 Bonneville SE.
Clock/radio display does not light up. Actually, it is working (I could tell by shining a flashlight at it), but it isn't lit up. Is there a replaceable bulb in there? This is the radio/CD player with the clock display in the upper left hand corner. Looks like that display panel ...

Re: Theft deterrent system doesn't work, '97 Bonneville
Code 1SD. Had this car for a year and can't remember the security light ever flashing and/or staying on when door is opened or shut, as per owners manual. Wondering why this would come on and stay on now after all this time? Could the car eventually not start?

Theft deterrent system doesn't work, '97 Bonneville
Never really thought much about the theft system. When I get out of the car and hit my remote to lock it, the horn sounds, the lights flash and the car is locked. No problem! Today while driving, the "SECURITY" light came on and stayed on, but no problem with the cars performance. When I got home I ...

Occasional Engine Miss On Acceleration
My '97 Bonneville has recently developed an occasional miss. Seems like it is only while accelerating, even slightly. We have had a lot of rain and the car has been sitting out. Thought at first it might be moisture somewhere or condensation in fuel. Tried some dry gas, but still doing it. It is not ...

Re: '97 Bonneville Heater Blower Motor
This is a question for anyone that has replaced the heater blower motor. Is there enough clearance for the old unit to come up out of the firewall in between the engine (and new unit to go back in) or is there another trick to it?
