tires dont peel with WOT

Post by seekinhighhp »

If the pavement is dry and with the traction control is on/off the tires won't peel at all. I do get full power and the speed I want but the car barely burn rubber. Is this normal?

WOT from a stop is pretty much pointless in my experience because of the wheelspin.

I wouldn't try to create it; it's not a good idea on a car known to shear the differential pin under such conditions.

But no, I don't think that's normal unless the T/C is intervening. Are you at a higher altitude where the air is thinner? That would make a huge difference.

I don't do WOT often but it would be nice to hear the tires spin ever once in awhile and not chirp. I stay in Chicago. When I don't give it a lot of gas, the car still has power to pass, get to.55mph with no hesitation.

You should be able to screech them on demand. Sounds like something isn't right.

I'll try posting a video through my phone so u all can see and hear what's going on. I don't have an SES light anymore since I changed the catalytic converter and I just recently gutted my airbox. The only tone I notice wheel spin but not a lot on these conditions is when I make a turn and gas on it.

Steve, burning in a turn is the WORST thing you can do to your differential. Unequal loads on each side of the differential will shear that pin. Don't do that any more until you invest in an LSD.

On a stock car it's hard to get rubber from going into it from a dead stop. Turn the Traction Control off, Put your foot on the brake, rev the engine to 2k RPM and punch it as you get off the brake, and you should light them up.

I agree, one-wheel peals and burning while turning are terrible for your diff and trans as a whole.

I'll keep that in mind but, I don't do this often either. Just sharing how my car reacts.

Seconded, all my Bonnevilles (All N/A Series II, with both transmissions) could spin the tires just fine.

Wouldn't replacing your differential with a LSD help? I don't know, I'm just throwing that out there. Hopefully somebody will chime in.

The LSD will make it HARDER to squeal the tires, as they both will have drive traction at the same time. Even in a straight line, and OEM (open) diff equipped car like most on this forum will burn twins, but they don't actually start burning at the same moment. One side lags by half a second, transferring the entire load to one side of the diff during that moment. This is almost as dangerous as burning in a turn.

An LSD won't fix his broken car, either.

If I lock into first an punch it from a 15mph roll I get spin. Silly wrong wheel drive. Lol.

pretty bad. you want spin and i'm trying to keep it down to a minimum. spinning the tires is fun sometimes to get some attention. but, i want the push you back in the seat and hold you there kind of take off.

Also, the limited LSD's that are available are extremely expensive.
