A present from Me to Me

Post by Z-type »

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to tell a little story and show some pictures - everyone likes pictures 8-) .

You may or may not have seen in my signature and recent posts that my '88 SSE was for sale - well it is, and it's because the ABS module/system bit the dust. It was a very expensive fix so I decided to put it up for sale and buy a new car. Well, I ended up with a '95 Buick Riviera, dark cherry with burgundy interior, 109,751 miles on the clock, and of course, the Series 1 SC engine 8-) . Got it for a decent price, but it needs some work. The brake lines burst SOMEWHERE and my cousin is going to fix them for cheap, and it needs a battery and some fuses replaced. It also needs some paint work but I'll probably take care of that myself. There's a decent dent in the driver's door that I'll fix eventually, and a giant hole rusted through in the trunk. Tires are nice and the leather is in FANTASTIC shape. The power seats and mirrors don't work but I think it's fuses. BOTH seats and BOTH mirrors wouldnt stop working for no reason. It also has a power moonroof and other misc. doodads and things. It's loaded. I'm excited to get working on it! Gets delivered to my cousin's tomorrow!

Now I know what you're thinking - 'Why would you not get another Bonneville?'...well, truth is, I tried. There aren't any 'Villes in my area that are cheap enough for in good enough condition for my purposes, and I wanted a newer body (95-99) and whatnot. I looked at a variety of cars but couldn't pass up this Riviera! Been wanting one for a long time anyway.

What I'm trying to say is I hope you guys can appreciate the car and will help me out with this engine when I need it! Superchargers are new-ish to me and since the Series 1 is less popular than the Series 2, I may need some help finding parts or modifications for it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for looking!

Oh, pretty color....

I'm sure once you fix the brakes and the rust, it'll be a bitchin' car.

Nice!

I love those Rivs, especially the interior!

I am considering trading my GP and my Roadmaster for a loaded '98 Riviera that a friend of mine has. Don't know if I want to let the Roadmaster go though, since it has kind of become a family heirloom.

very nice, with some work and elbow grease you can get it looking great :)

and for the mirrors and seats, if its not fuses, id consider the grounds, im not sure how similar the rivs are to the bvilles but its definitely a possibility.

Thanks for the input and comments everyone :) ....I really appreciate it! I can't wait to get it to my house and start working on the little things that drive me nuts - like the seats and mirrors for instance.

Here's some more pictures - car got delivered to my cousin's today.

Thanks guys :) ...I know purple isn't that manliest color on earth but I tell you what, it IS really pleasing to the eye. I love the dark burgundy interior too...it's nice and 'calming' if you will.

Well, bad news on the car. It has some structural rot  ...it has some fun holes in the unibody's "frame" that needs reinforced but it's very fixable. The whole of the brake line system needs replaced as well as some of the fuel lines and the valve cover gaskets. Other than that, between my cousin and I, the car looks pretty nice. I was a little disappointed to find the frame damage but you know what, I think it'll be worth fixing. More pictures will commence tomorrow.

Question though - the 25 picture limit, is that just per PAGE, or per POST? I don't want to do something wrong :) . Thanks!

Quick question....does anyone know if these Series 1 L67's NEED Premium fuel? Or do they take Regular gasoline? I can't find it in my manual...

Thanks!

YES.

While it may run, it won't run as well on regular, it has to knock to reduce the timing advance to run 87 (not good) and your mileage will be worse, to the point to where it's cost effective to run Premium per mile, over regular.

Thanks BonneMe...I had to drop off parts at the garage for the car so I grabbed the manual while I was there and sifted through it again...turns out the page about fuel was ripped out and stuck between a few other pages haha. No wonder I couldn't find it. Thanks though! And thanks ChilinMichael :) ...I agree. Reading up on this car I realize how advanced it was for the day (to a degree) and how nice it really is. Can't wait to cruise!

Like I said, I dropped off a slew of parts today for my cousin: rear rotors, pads, and calipers, the whole e-brake system, a fuel filter and valve cover gaskets. They got to work on it as soon as I left. I also have a long list of little things I want to do to the car when it gets back, like polishing the turn signal lenses beside the headlights. For some reason, on every Riviera I've seen, those have always been fogged. Anyway, I'll get pictures of the rust damage I mentioned at some point. Whenever I stop by and it's on the rack I'll be snappin pics...

Two tone hmm? I'm thinking silver on the bottom? It's a possibility! I like the idea a lot. Oh and Dark Cherry sounds good  .

My counsins have finally started working on The PIE Car (Purple Import Eater, dubbed by my girlfriend). The rear brakes are done and they just started working on the lines as I dropped off the front calipers and rotors and things. Still a few things to do but they'll get done. They're aiming to have it done by the end of the week :) .
