brakes and abs issues

Post by sTonedefone »

Hey guys im having a real issue with my teves abs. Every time i touch the brake, the abs and the brake light come on. I can vaguely hear the pump, then the lights go away and i can brake normally. If i try to hit the brake too fast i get a funny feeling in the pedal and no brakes for about 1 second; then the pedal comes up and brakes normally. The thing is, even in the rain i can't brake hard enough to invoke the abs because the lights come on and it gets disabled. The fluid level is max and does not change, so i dont think i have a fluid leak. And if i had an accumulator leak, wouldnt the pump come on on its own? I just turned the rotors, put new pads, and clean & adjusted the rears, then bled all the brakes. The pedal is a little higher, but the problems persist. I hope its not a master cylinder - dont they run about 800 bucks? ANY help would be appreciated. my bonne is a 90 se w/abs all stock.

I didn't know what "Teves" was...so I researched... hydroboost brakes do not run on vacuum lines according to the below link. They are pressured by the power steering pump... so... maybe check your power steering fluid level too... http://www.superchevy.com/technical/cha ... index.html

the Teves system has a dedicated pump, and a hydrualic accumulator

this (at least i hope the link works) is a pic of the master assembly, the black round thing is the accumulator, used to hold pressure, the round cylinder along the bottom, kinda looks like a starter solenoid, is the pump, only on the Bonne its mounted on the fire wall just to the left of the master
