thank you indiana state police.

Post by lewis26 »

Got a ticket last night on I-65, doing 90 in a 70. It was 11 at night, no one on the road, and I just wanted to get back to school.

ugh, $140 and 4 pts on my license.

I was just tired of being on the road, and wasn't paying attention to my speed. I had picked up my roommate from o'hare, and was on the way back. I'd already been in the car for almost 3 hours, and just wanted to get to my apartment and go to sleep.

The cop was a jerk, and wrote me a written warning along with my ticket for "obstruction of view out windows because there were things behind me in the back seat that he thought were blocking my blind spot, although they weren't.

That sucks. I haven't gotten a ticket in over a year, and that was nullified by paying $75 and taking a two hour class. The ticket was $122.50, so it was a good deal.

The money part doesn't really bother me. I was speeding and got caught. It's the 4 points on my license and the insurance hike that comes with it.

Goodbye perfect driving record. It's not I was doing anything reckless either. Nobody was around!

What part of I-65 were you on? Anywhere 80 miles north of Lafayette, or 50 miles south is absolutely pure speeding temptation. Last driving through there I had the cruise set at 95 about 30 miles north of Lafayette for nearly 10 minutes, until I spotted a cop coming the opposite way...no other cars for a LONNNG time..and that was just mid afternoon on a weekday.

But I've since then heard about what asses those Indiana cops can be...and that's nothing against the Indiana state police in general, but more of just an honest account of what people say they've been treated like.

Mile marker 220. right at the fair oaks farm exit. He was in the grove of trees between the 2 sides of the road. I should have been paying attention better, but that drive is so BORING!

Yeah..around State Road 10/14, that's right around where I saw a cop. I was between Lafayette and south of State Road 114...completely DEAD through there...and plenty of visibility for police..just gotta look out for ones coming up behind you.

Sorry to hear that...not even a radar detector could save you from that...maybe a laser jammer, but not much else.

Actually I think a detector would have helped me. He wasn't exactly hiding, just fully dark. I saw him when I was about 100 ft away, but I knew he already had me.

I'm looking into getting an escort passport 8500 detector, mirror mount, and hardwire cord.

I figure I make this trip from chicago to lafayette so many times a year going to and from home and school that it would pay for itself soon enough. I was bound to get pulled over sometime. Amazing I made it a year and a half doing this drive without one.

I know how you feel, man, I got my first speeding ticket last week, 83 in a 55. What sucks is that I was only up to that for a few seconds (and didn't have plans at staying at that speed - was just making room between me and a tailgater). I was bummed for days. Problem is, I'm not sure if it was 2 or 4 points on my license.

Well, as others told me, stuff happens. It does suck though.

Speeding tickets suck! I got 2 in a row a couple months back! Thankfully, the cop was cool and marked me as going 1mph under the limit for mandatory court and big points lol.

Yup, it is frustrating. as it was said, if the cop would have had pop radar, even that might not have helped you. I just set the cruise control. One time running from Silver City to Deming, NM, I was doing 69 in a 65, and so was everybody else <leading a pack of about 10 cars. it felt awesome!>

On the freeways in the country here, i normally run 75-80 in a 65 or 70. I'm not near any freeways, but I've done enough to know what I can get away with.

and you would be the one to get nailed, too. they were probably using you in case the cop had an instant-on radar, they will pick up the hit on you and slow down :laughing3:

I never speed at night anymore. I have only had 1 speeding ticket and its not on my record. IMO Radar dectors are pointless they give a false sense of security. And make you too comfortable speeding. I use my eyes, mirrors and knowledge of the roads to not get tickets. You should be on edge every time you are speeding excessively. Scanning for cops, deer, othercars, cops, speed cameras, potholes and cars that look like or could be cop cars. I still speed alot but its only during the day on well known roads its too hard to tell whats a cop and whats not at night unless he is behind you.

Personally, I don't think 20 over is speeding excessively.

I got a radar detector coming in the mail, and am calling the court's clerk on weds to see if IN offers court supervision like IL does.

Excessive speeding would be any speed in which a cop would not hesitate in pulling you over for even if he didnt have his radar on.
