transmission interchange
transmission interchange
I have a 2000 ssei with bad trans. Will a 1997 grand prix gtp trans work in my ssei?

Re: transmission interchange
Short answer is no.
Long answer is yes, BUT IIRC there was an electronics update somewhere around 2000, as well as a hardware update. I'm still not up to speed on the 4t65 yet, and I am sure someone that is will better steer you, but my gut tells me it won't quite work.

2005 GXP - White Gold Pearl, no mods...yet.
2000 SSEi - Resurrection in progress. Built L67 w/L32 fuel rail, ported heads, and cam. Camaro front brake system, GXP cluster, and much more in planning.

Re: transmission interchange
Without swapping any internal parts, the only transmissions that are a direct drop-in replacement for a 2000 SSEi are:
2000-2002 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi
1999-2002 Buick Park Avenue Ultra (though the Torque Converter is different)
No Grand Prix GTP (or other W-body) trans will be a drop-in, because they are not Internal Mode Switch (like 2000+ H-Body)

Re: transmission interchange
I am looking for a spare transmission and I found a 2003 SSEi transmission with low miles, What do need to changed or update or make this work in a 2001 SSEi?
Internal changes or differances? I know it has a updated 4th output shaft.
I also know it may require the 2003 control module, is this different than the PCM or is it part of the PCM/ECM?

Re: transmission interchange
I believe the difference in the PCM is all about the trans, although I could be wrong. I know an 03 trans won't work with an older PCM, idk about a newer PCM and trans in an older car.
Bye Bye:
