Taking over EX wife's SSEI

Post by kcoop99 »

It has been a while since I have been on the bonneville forum but I am back. My soon to be ex thinks the car has major problems and just wants to give it back to me! I took it into the shop to have them find out what is wrong. I know the fuel level sensor is bad. The shop told me that there was a problem with the EGR valve. I replaced the LIM gasket a few years ago and had to put a new pipe (?) on because the other one cracked. Could I have missed something there? The mechanic told me that the EGR valve could just be causing ALL the other problems. On top of the fuel level sensor, this could be my only real problem!! Could I be so lucky as to have to just replace that?! He also tested the coils and they checked out ok. The plugs and wires are all "new". Below is the printout from the computer. Thanks for the help!!!

Also, if it is the EGR valve.....how exactly can you tell? I have cleaned it and everything. There doesnt seem to be anything sticking. Could I have messed it up at one point by messing with the screw on the bottom??

Welcome ;)

What pipe are you taking about exactly? EGR pipe? if there is a problem with that, then yes, you will have problems.

What did you do with the screw on the bottom? that shouldn't need to be touched.

Want a cheap fix for the fuel level sender? Check this out: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... hilit=fuel

I replaced that "pipe" just below the EGR valve. Its metal. I have sprayed a TON of carb cleaner everywhere to find a vacuum leak and couldnt find anything! The screw underneath the EGR valve looks like a torx bit screw. I dont remember if I did anything with it last year. If I did, Im assuming I screwed it up!

I'd check the upper and lower pipes for leaks. If you can't find anything, I have that EGR valve I mentioned to you.

Sounds like I might have to. Like I said, I sprayed everywhere and can't get a change in idle. Thanks!

EGR pipes are not a vacuum. They are coming straight from the exhaust manifold, there is pressure, not vacuum.

Original ones were cracked....replaced them and was VERY careful to not bend them too much. Looks like I will be contacting you for the EGR valve.
