Bonne will be missed... *now with pics page 2*

Post by captainmiller »

So everything went wrong with my '96 just as winter started to set in. To get it ready for the winter season she needed: a waterpump, a tensioner, both belts, both ball joints, both upper strut mounts, new tires, alternator....there was a rust hole in the rear inner fender that was letting water in the cabin, the airbag light was on, my signal light didn't cancel or work half the time, etc, etc, etc...I had to let her go. I needed a good reliable car for getting to school & work, and I have no time to deal with these things anymore. With over 200k and the bills piling up it just wasn't worth it. I am still sad, and in shock that I don't own it anymore.

So on to the good part, here is the new ride. 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP w/CompG package. The car is loaded, has 40000 km's on it (25000 miles), and is pretty minty. I got $2000.00 for Bonne on the trade in, so my net cost was $13,990 on this machine. More pics once I really clean it up.

There you have it.

PS...How long does it take to get over a car you were completely attached to? :sad5:

I'm still not over my 95, but at least you replaced boost with boost.

Nice looking ride! Doesn't look like it needs to be cleaned up at all!

I'm with Jim, those rims were alway my favorite especially on white ones.

I was over my 99 as soon as I sold it.

I like it. Nice replacement.

I still miss old cars I've had every now and again. But, then I remember why I sold them in the first place (usually same issues you described - everything breaking at once), and I get over it real fast.

I'm still not over my 89, but I had to get rid of it for the same reasons you traded in the 96. But I haven't had my 93 for a year now...so, I don't know where to be about that.

Sad to see the older ones getting sold, traded and scrapped these days, but I guess sometimes it is just necessary..but I must say, that is quite a choice. Very nice!

I'm not over my '93...though technically I still have it, I haven't been able to drive it in almost exactly a year, except for on/off a trailer.

Nice new ride though! Looks hot!

I still miss the tempo oddly enough. The fact that you can run into and tow things, and it would turn on a dime. Not to mention I didnt have to worry about keeping it pretty. But something about leveling the Right Front corner of a maxima tends to put a limit on the time it has left. :(

Thanks for all the positive comments guys...I feel really good about the new ride. So far I have really enjoyed it, I don't have much at all to complain about. It runs and rides like a dream, and the handling improvement over my 12 year old h-body is...incredible. The L32 is very responsive, and even produces a nice growling exhaust tone through the stock exhaust. It has been terrible outside all day so I havn't really had a chance to play around with it. It thunder stormed this afternoon, and started snowing a little bit about an hour later. I love the rims as well. It really is a shame they have to come off so soon for the winter set.

Stock heated seats and command start is a God send in my climate... :)

Cap'n..couple things I noticed.

For the 2005 MY, the GP had a few changes, the antenna moved from the front of the car to the back, the round HVAC vents were dressed up with chrome rings around them, the gage cluster lost the carbon fiber overlay pattern and the GP button in the centre of the steering wheel was changed, gone is the GP and added was the Pontiac dart. Now, the CompG door badges are a 2005 thing, but I'm thinking the previous owner simply added them to his/her car.

I think you have a 2K4 there, nothing wrong with that, but I see a more evidence of an 04 then of an 05.

Thats odd...my VIN # brings up a 2005 on carfax and my insurance. The factory GM warrenty in the glove box, and the manual is for 2005 as well. Perhaps an early manufacture for the 2005 model year?

Very nice ride! I think I would get over the old car as soon as I started paddle shifting.

A lot of little things like that get changed halfway through model years.

You asked about getting over cars? I'm still getting over my 00, because i loved that car, but surprisingly i am over my Tahoe, which is weird, since i had that over a year, and i had the bonne just over a month, LOL.

Quite true, and thats a very good point. I'm sure it is a 2005, but most likely a very early build. FWIW, consider the chrome bezels, totally sets off the interior (I've yet to do it, but its on my list - while I decide to either expand my photography gear or modify my GTP #-o )
