Heads Up Display with New Sunglasses
My sunglasses broke today, so I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a new pair of Panama Jacks. Now I can't see the heads up display with them on if the sun is shining. Any thoughts. I didn't have any issues with my old shades.

Re: Heads Up Display with New Sunglasses
your new sunglasses are polarized, which means they reduce glare, which essential is what HUD is, i had the same problem and had to switch to a different pair

Agreed with GoldenBullet. I can't see my HUD very well at all with my Native's which are polarized, but I can see it with my non-polarized oakleys.

I have the same problem. My sunglasses are prescription and polarized so it's not like I can go out and get new ones. I just deal with it and use my GPS for my speed.

Ok, now that we know the cause of it, is there anything that can be done to fix it other than getting different sunglasses? Would placing a small piece of tint in that area make a difference at all? Any thoughts?

The polarized sunglasses block light that is not oscillating in a vertical mode. The light reflected off highways, water, and other surfaces are mostly oscillating in the horizontal component. Therefore the sunglasses block a lot of the bright light, glare, reflected in that way.
But the light bouncing off the shiny surface of the windshield coating is the horizontally polarized light. Therefore the sunglasses block them. If the glasses block light reflected from a highway, it will block the light from the numeral display of our HUD (I have one on my Buick--love it).

Re: Heads Up Display with New Sunglasses
Depends on the glasses. I used to wear Serengeti Drivers, polarized, and it cut the glare of the dash, but I could still see the HUD. It was ever so slightly dimmer, but I could see it. Step up to a new set of 7EYE Diablo's with the NXT lenses, and polarized...and they're doing the same as the Serengeti's. I can see the HUD, but the rest of the dash refelctions are cut. The first 7EYE's I got had non-polarized lenses and I couldn't even imagine driving with them. Way too much glare for me. I definitely need polarized for driving, and can still see the HUD.
The Serengeti's are cheaper (about $90), the 7EYE's are expensive ($250)

Tilt your head to the right or left, or hold your sunglasses in front of you rotated 90°. Your HUD will come back into view.
It's not just the fact that they ARE polarized, it's what ANGLE the polarization is at. My Maui Jim's also fade my HUD by about 75%. But I don't drive that car much and just deal with it.

Maui Jim's FTW. There is no way around it just deal with it or get non-polorized sunglasses. I could not live without my Polorized Maui's. I am from FL on the Gulf of Mexico and from my fishing days, polorized sunglasses proved themself to me many of times, they saved my ace many times because I saw the flat (grass or sand flat in the water) before I hit them.
