Headlights

Post by motoroil34 »

Just curious if anyone has ever gotten all lights, high, low beams and fog lights all with the flip of the high beam switch and if so how did you do it? I do a lot of night driving so any light I can get would be better.
I just posted this but cant seem to find it again sorry for any doubling up.

There's a little box you can buy online that will make your bright lights and regular lights come on when you turn bright lights on. I've bought one before. I think it's just called a head light control box. I found it on Amazon. Basically it plugs in between your wiring and the headlight on each side. I'm sure they're still out there online somewhere.

Speaking of head lights why do the fog lights go off when you hit your brights?

Because certain states think it's illegal to have more than a certain number of forward facing lights (which is irrelevant, just look at modern LED fixtures, just another example of how government is failing).

Exactly, a certain candlepower limit, which is why, unless you have factory HID's, that both your lows and fogs go off when the high beams are activated.

THat aftermarket relay will work. I've used it in several GM trucks over the years, but anyone with a wiring diagram can probably bypass the factory relay.

I've tried wiring them, but maybe i'm just not electrically advanced enough to do it. The standard hi/lo switch simply transfers power from one wire to the other. If you make both come on for hi beams, they both come on for low beams too.

Thank you for your responses.
I now feel a lot better knowing that the government has everything under control.
Now if they could just work on the taxes, deficit, economy, crime.roads and bridges everything should be great.
Also maybe they can do something about all the commercials on NFL games.
The time of the game could go from 3:45 to 3:00.

Hey, they're saving us from ourselves, so America, keep the democrat train rolling. Not to take this off base into a political debate as that is against rules.

If that box doesn't add a dedicated power line for the lights, you'll need to rethink the power supply. I've melted the brights switch on my other car when I had it running all 4 headlamps at once.

On the 2000s, all four lights are lit when the highs are activated. This techinfo post was written based upon that. It's a simple circuit that uses the factory wiring for the lighting. It just provides a ground for the fog lamp relay that is normally removed when the highs are activated. It's not "pretty", but it does the job without a lot of wiring work.

Toggle switches! Everybody needs a few toggle switches lined up on their dash! Get the fancy ones that flip open and look like NOS switches. You can do anything with enough toggle switches!

Sorry, couldn't resist...The power and control "Democratic Train" has seemed to hit the wall (no pun intended), and derailed a long time ago!. [-(
