Interesting new factory head unit replacement product

Post by drdivo »

Comes out in a few weeks

http://www.oeradio.com/product_GM-5100.html

Direct fit for the GM chassis; their site is a bit short on information, but it does have iPod and Bluetooth connectivity. No sound shaping, five pre-amp outputs. Their site says it has the capacity for steering wheel controls.

I've written to them about compatibility with OnStar, door chimes, HUD and the XM module.

I'd be VERY interested in this if it will work in 00+ Bonnevilles. But I question if it will since it only lists 2005 and newer vehicles. Most 2005 and new GM products have the GMLan system, which our Bonnevilles do NOT have - even 2005s. You're better off with the TNR800 or some other GM OEM unit.

interestingly, from everything I could find out, this unit won't really work with our Bonnies. The unit won't reproduce the door/key chimes, nor will it maintain the OnStar.

Intriguing... But from what I can tell, you'll still need to buy a harness... It would be an engineering nightmare trying to design that around GM's LAN bus system... So (sadly the dingleberries forgot to take more than one picture of it), without seeing the rear (where the harness would theoretically be sticking out from), I would assume that it would work with the Bonneville. It does look like it has the brackets built in, though, so some fabrication might be in order... But, that's just a guess, let's see what the Dr. comes up with in his email reply...
