I've re-used spindle nuts before. Unless I'm missing something here the H-body does not use a self-staking nut.

Now that i think about it though they are oblong on the one end. I have thought of them as a lock nut in the past, and i did notice that the last time I put them on one nut threads on a couple spins then must be ratcheted, the next threaded on all the way with fingers then was just torqued.

In JWikoff's defense, the service manual does instruct you to use new spindle nuts when you replace the front hub, but I have never seen this done at any repair shop.

Whether or not this is a statement to absolve the manufacturer of any legal responsibility, rather than one based on an actual need is beyond the scope of my knowledge.

I finally got around to this, and of course I have a problem. The bushing removal tool adapter doesn't appear to fit over the flared/lipped end of the bushing. Even if it did have a large enough adapter, the threaded shaft has to point forward where the shape of the subframe gets in the way. So..... poop. From the wear marks on the subframe, it looks like for forward end of the control arm has been contacting it. So this bushing might in fact be my shimmy problem.

HOW DO I GET IT OUT??

Wrenching can be difficult sometimes...

If you can't figure a way to set up the tool to press or pull it out, then the options are:

Cut it out (think sawzall)

Burn it out (torchify)

Drill it out (holes in the rubber until Swiss cheese)

Chisel it out (air chisel preferred)

Or, any combination of the above options, plus probably plenty I have not mentioned.

Once the mount is empty, have you thought about how the new one is to be put in? Yes, yes, one thing at a time.... :-$

I think I can use the tool to press it back in. But not out.

BTW, I had virtually no issue getting the bolts out. It took a little pb blaster and oomph, but wasn't too bad. They slipped right out once the nut was off.

95naSTA loaned me his tool specific to this job and I got er done. I couldn't test drive it yet, so I don't know if my shimmy is still there.

If I ever met the engineer responsible for pressing the bushing into the subframe, I'd want to junk-punch him.
