Going to need some new tires before year-end and would like some input on tire choices that people feel may reduce the infamous wheel vibration associated with these cars. The suspension is in good shape, new rotors and pads all the way around and I just had both tie-rod ends replaced. All wheels have been road-force balanced but the vibration is still there in varying amounts. Nothing too bad but I'm guessing it's got to be the tires. The Pontiac dealer flat-out admitted to me yesterday that he feels Goodyear RSA's are junk. He likes Michelins for roundness and also mentioned Bridgestone and Hankook. 2000 Bonneville SE with GXP 18's, 235/50-18. Thanks.
Just noticed these on tire rack...any good? The price is tempting.
On my 2000 SSEi, I have only had to use one set of new tires since my car has 88,000 miles on it. The Michelins are a fantastic tire and since I replaced the original tires (at 33,000 miles) that came on the car, the Michelins have about 55,000 miles on them and I expect them to still get another 10,000 miles on them before replacing them with a new set of Michelins. I recently got 77,000 miles on the set of Michelins I have on my 2000 Cadillac STS so my vote is definitely Michelin. Hope this helps.

The Eagles are cheaper and will probably last longer than the Michelins, but you can't get a whole lot better in an all season tire for your specific tire size.

I have gone through three different tire types on my 2000 SSEi, and nothing comes close to the Perelli P-Zero Nero. The original Goodyear RSA's were junk! I replaced them with Dunlap's, much better, but wore out in 20,000 miles. The Perelli P-Zero Nero's have totally changed the characteristics of the car. Outstanding cornering! They are W speed rated and also MS rated, and designed for the American market. So far I have 25,000 on them and there is plenty of tread left, and they won't bankrupt you either. I believe the latest refinement has increased the speed rating to Z. Since I live in the Chicago area and the driving conditions range from summer heat to winter snow, I'm amazed at how well they do.
I also have Pirelli P Zero Nero tires on my car, and they are FANTASTIC in dry and wet conditions. The car feels completely stable through the rain even with my stock suspension with 130000 miles on it. There is some vibration at highway speeds (thats the suspension talking) but at normal speeds they are extremely quiet and smooth. I can't attest to how good they are in the winter, but others have said they work great (lets hope so, michigan is a bear in the winter).

180,000 miles and running smooth
Hey, harrydunn, long time no see! I absolutely love my Goodyear Tripletreds. I got a set with my wheels I bought a few months back. They were really worn down, and had a new set put on. They are great IMO.
I currently have Goodyear Tripletreads. I love them. They have about 65,000 hard miles on them. I did have some pretty good vibrations when I first got the tires, but over time it did get better. I do notice it again when I have the tires balanced. I plan on getting Michelin Pilot Sport A/S next month. I have read several good reviews for them.
I have Kumho Ecsta ASX and have been very satisfied with them so far. They ran the end of this past winter season and spring/summer so far. Very good handling in corners.
Had 2 sets of RSAs => Junk
Had 1 set of Kumhos => much better
Got P-zero’s a month ago => OMG, new car!
Much smoother running and incredible high speed performance
Wet is much better than RSA and about same as Kumho.
Price is good. Tirerack has them for $91 & I got them locally for a little less.
Haven’t had them long enough give other comments (other than made in Brazil)
My brother-in-law has those BFG’s on his mustang and is happy with the performance. I like the looks of them more than the P-zero’s.
I'll be honest with you, all I want is a smooth ride. At this point, I will gladly give up some performance and handling if the seat and floorboard vibrations disappear! Hopefully, I'm one of the lucky ones for which a new set of quality tires will do the trick.

I have Pirelli P4 Four Seasons. They're a decent touring tire. They ride well, grip amazingly in both wet and dry, handle predictably and no balance problems noticed yet after approximately 8k miles on them. They're sort of noisy around town, but this goes away on the highway. For the grip and handling some noise is fine by me.

Learn from the mistakes of others, that way when you mess up you can do so in new and interesting ways.
I've tested them in many ways.
Faster than intelligent cornering: A+
Nearly locked up braking: A+
Daily driving comfort and handling: A+
Rain: A++
Dry hot pavement: A+
Endurance of being spun at every stoplight: A+
Honestly I've beat these tires senseless and they keep asking for more. I ran around 20 track passes near the beginning of their life, have offered them to others for the same and use them primarily as my summer tires (they are the the 00 swoops).
Most people can't believe this is their third season on my car, I'd hazard a guess that they have at least 40K on them with plenty of treadlife (at least on 2) left.
I can and will highly recommend the BFG's you had linked to. I have had these tires on my GXP for 30K miles and have had absolutly no complaints. These tires are a very good choice.

My theory is that any tire with a high speed rating should be more stable and should help you with that (as much as a tire can help).

There's so much more into a tire than the speed rating.
