Shallow aftermarket receiver?

Shallow aftermarket receiver?

Post by IanRosean »

Does anyone know of a shallow CD-less media head unit that is like am fm USB Aux and possibly blue tooth, that the depth is like super shallow like around 4 inches deep so I do not have to cut the plastic that is behind the stock radio? Any input is greatly appreciated, I am terrified of attempting to cut that plastic and something going wrong.

I have not seen one. But cutting out the back of the dash is not too hard to do. And it will not prevent you from reinstalling the factory radio later on.

Also you can get an a dash install kit that sticks out like an inch so you dont have to cut anything. At least it is that way for the older models.

I have the 2000 bonneville SE. What kind of tools do you use to cut it? I tried manipulating the right on cable and it seems to be like right on that plastic back there so I'm super nervous. But like I said I don't need a cd player and would prefer a touchscreen with a shallow depth so I don't have to cut anything

just use a drill with a 1/2 inch bit and drill holes around the back next to each other until you cut out the whole back. A dremel tool may also work.

I had a friend help me. I removed the vent next to the radio and stuck my hand back there to hold the ribbon cable while he used a Dremel (yes, we were being careful with my hand, too). Took probably 5 minutes to complete.

I later went back in there with that Dremel to open up more space on the right side for hiding cables.

No it didnt have a touchscreen it was a cheap Boss 614UA for $19 bucks on walmart.com, its all I need though because it pushes 50w to each speaker and i'm just gonna plug in my phone to it.

the only touchscreen I know of that will fit in our bonnies is the parrot asteroid which is like $499, im good on that hahaha
