couple ?'s

Post by velvetdreams21 »

This guy has a 91 Thunderbird with a 305, he wants to race me. I said we both know he would dominate me right now and I said wait till I get some mods done to the car. Question:

How much HP is he runnin stock?

How much chance do I have of winning now (I know like none, jw) and how much after some mods?

You mean 302...

You pretty much have him. The 5.0 in the T-bird is quite sluggish, mated to cruddy gears and a even crappier transmission. I say take him on and embarrass the crap out him.

This IS at the track, correct?

The guy could also have a modded 5.0 and spank your ass just the same.

Does the Thunderbird look anything like this: http://media.motortopia.com/files/559/v ... G_1070.jpg
That's a '92 T-Bird, but the 1991 T-Bird Super Coupe is pushin 210 Horses with about 300 foot pounds torque.. If you're running an SE you've got no chance, that is if he's racing you with the Super Coupe. Even with the SSEi, I'm gonna have to say that he's got you still.. Sorry, just the facts of life and gravity.

If it's a 91 V8, and it's stock or mostly stock, your 94 SSEi, in proper STOCK tune will destroy him. The 5.0's of that gen are sluggish garbage. Your 94 should run a 14.8-15.0 bone stock on a good track with a good launch (proper car prep). Your 60' time will be absolutely devastating against that T-bird.

This also holds true for most 5.0 mustangs of the older gen.

I agree with Will on this. The T-bird, in its prime, was only a 16+ sec car. As for the stangs of that gen I would have to disagree. The LX 5 liter was a solid 15 sec car.

Just my opinion but I think stock for stock it would be close but by no means will you destroy him.

I doubt it. I just found times for a 1993 Ford Thunderbird SC, and it's a 0-60 of 7.2 and a 1/4 of 15.7. Even the 1989 Thunderbird SC 5 Speed is only a 6.9 0-60 and 14.9 1/4, and that is dead on with a stock '94 SSEi. These specs come from a Super Coupe club website - http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/ ... times.html

He still has him anyway you put it, SC or 5.0.

<-----Thunderbird Owner.....

The Super Coupes did not come with a V8. They were the 3.8L with a supercharger.

So he has a 91 t-bird LX with the 5.0 motor. If your in a SE, he will beat you, but not by much. But if your in a SSEI you'll win hands down

And like Wren said...a 5.0L is a 302. Stock it has 220hp. And a very sluggish tranny.

The 91 Supercoupe had 210hp with 315ft lbs of torque. Also had a crappy trans.

I know from experience. A 92/93 SSEi in stock form will take a V8 LX Tbird.

And the SC never achieved squat for performance out of that motor. The trans only makes it worse. Ford had a chance to do it right and missed.

Don't think you'll have any problem at all. I'm about 90% sure a stock L27/3.06:1 could take a FI Windsor 302/3.08:1. If not beat it, be almost identical...so I doubt an L67 would have much issue. I've driven a 91 T-Bird with the 302 Windsor before...it was disgustingly lame. Also drove a '92 210hp 281ci (4.6) 16V Modular in a Merc GM LS the same week...and was amazed at how much better that was than the Windsor...if it wasn't for the retarded dead steering and the lame handling, I'd probably have one.

I don't think you have too much to worry about.

Their is a guy at my work that has the 93 T-bird and it moves just fine. Holly heads, intake manifold and BBK throttle body. I went to see him race another co-worker 2 weeks ago at Memphis Motorsports Park and he spanked a WS6 TA. so yes a thunder chickens can move if its built and tuned right. I hope your friend is bone stock and clueless on how to launch.
