00+ fuel pump upgrade.

Post by Oldsman105 »

My fuel level sensor is going haywire . SO since I have to pull the sending unit I might was well upgrade the fuel pump. I wanted to see what others had done to do upgrades . I remember reading some compatibility issues with the upgraded pumps. Any and all help is appreciated.

Racetronix has a upgraded pump (modified walbro iirc). I believe the 00 bonnies have a Ventri pump like the GTP's.

No I haven't bought any components yet. I recall you saying that the venturi setup or maybe it was the bottom of the sending unit that is different from the GTPs and that the normal high flow pumps have issues with our car.

I've got this Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump installed on my 01.

It was easy to install and works great.

If you put in an aftermarket pump, doesn't really matter if it has venturi or non, just dont drive around untill the gas light comes on. Venturi systems have a difficult time keeping up in our canisters, and most fuel pump manufacturers dont want to deal with them. So its your decision if you like running the tank low or not.

I like to run my tank low.

bobtaz13 can you run you tank down to the warning light and not have it stall?

I believe I had about 1/4 tank in mine when I did it. I would also replace you fuel level sender while your in there. http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... f=9&t=3463
