thermostat ..... 180 or 195 ?

Post by wdudetocool »

hey guys... i have put a 4t65e-hd tranny on my non-supercharged engine. <which works beautifully-thanks again harodude> my question is do i want to keep the 195 thermostat in my engine ,or should i put the 180 one in? i ask because i read that the hd trannys are designed to run cooler than the non hd tranny, which i would have thought the other way around..... :dontknow:

I'd go with the 180 to keep everything a little cooler all the way around. I put a 180 in mine and the coolant tends to run around 195. Never checked what the 195 kept the coolant at but I imagine it was around 205-210. It won't hurt to keep everything cooler it may even last a bit longer.

Both are fine, you will basically notice no difference with either.

180 is the way to go. An aux trans cooler is even better way to take care of that trans, cause the stock one has always been a poor one.

IF you dont have the Tune changed to have the Fans turn on @ 180*, then that Thermostat really doesnt do that much.
