A '99 Prelude vs. a '94 Bonneville? Were they racing back to the junkyard?

Wow. That's really sad. Anyone know if the Bonneville driver is a current member of this club?

That's a very sad and tragic incident, but these kids were STREET racing, not drag racing. A drag race is an organized, structured affair with safety being a primary concern. The media tosses around the term "drag race" like some people call cola "Coke". They are not interchangeable. I've been involved in drag racing at various levels for over 25 years. Anyone with any background in drag racing wouldn't consider involving themselves in a street race in a suburban area for fear of something like this occurring. I applaud gonzo for for labeling the post "why you don't street race ". My heart goes out to the families involved.

WTF with the posted comments to the article, why does every online article have to have an option for idiots to spout off about what cars they were street racing in....geez.

Sad story, to bad for all involved. :(

*dang* that does suck. But I have to ask, how the hell do people crash 200HP or less FWD cars when they are going in a straight line :ack: ?! They have to be among the safest and easiest cars to floor, go, and not lose control.

Also the comments on there are hilarious. One dude said you couldn't make the 99 prelude or 94 Bonne fast with even $6k. Hell with $6k in upgrades either of those cars would smoke most cars in a drag race.

That is horrible. The guy probably thought he'd live for a long time and that it would be kind of cool to race a car. Too bad life is so fragile. People die racing professionally and on the street, but "street racers" have probably no cares for safety. If they had held back and gone to the track, better precautions would have been taken. Too bad.

No one should really care about those comments. When it comes to cars street racing, everyone who leaves a comment thinks he/she is an expert. Just let them all go.

This is very sad. I hope it was noone on the club
How on earth do you lose control of a prelude when going in a straight line?

We've had 2 locally the last few months. Both involved GTPs on high traffic roads.

The driver in this one recently died.

Oh man, that's a pretty unfriendly reminder to all of us. Where I live, the drinking and driving seems to be more prevalent than even the street racing. :???:
