Re: Motor boreing
You shouldn't really go more than 30 over, so 3.85 Liters

95 SLE... a keeper. 241k miles. Low and Slow.

That's about 1 cubic inch per cylinder? - BC95naSTA wrote:You shouldn't really go more than 30 over, so 3.85 Liters

Re: Motor boreing
It's not worth boring it for performance, if you felt the need to rebuild it and it was worn past spec, then you could bore it .030, other than that there's no reason to do it.

30 over would get you a 235, a hair under 5/8cid per cylinder

Before you get out the ol' boring bar, make sure you decide what pistons to use. Not all pistons are available in all oversizes.
462 cubic inches of REAL Pontiac power.

Re: Motor boreing
You'd need to find over-size rings and pistons as well if you bore it.

Re: Motor boreing
.030" over will realistically give you almost no power increase by itself, so if power is what you are looking for with this you are wasting your time and money.
Even with other performance enhancements like a cam, lifters, ported intake, and headwork that .030" over will have a very small effect on actual power produced.
