In the time that the SSEi sat without a motor, I found a 2004 Camry in Naples, Florida while on vacation, and got it for a great price ($6900). It only had 40,000 miles, full service records, owned by an old couple from Canada who used it when they visited their condo. Given its history in Florida, it is spotless underneath, drives great, and gets 30 mpg consistently. But its boring... plus it doesn't have anti-locks, which are somewhat nice given our Ohio winters.
The SSEi has 140,000 on the body, but only 9,000 on the transmission, I just got done rebuilding the motor and installed all new brakes. Everything on the car works. There is a little bit of rust underneath... although the brake lines are a bit rustier and may need replacement in the next year.
I figure I could sell the Camry for around $9000... and the SSEi for about $3500 or so as it currently sits. Profit on either would be about equal at these sale prices.
I also considered putting them both for sale, for $9000 and $4000, and see which one sells first.
Solid and boring, or a bit rusty and fun???
