I somehow missed those infinity's, looking at the specs I think they would be even better then the polks, and the price is better too.

Yeah but I would like some confirmation of the stock impedance before you buy, does anyone have a monsoon speaker that could be measured

Our cars have about the best stock systems available. I'd post a "wanted to buy" and replace with some stock speakers. I'm not sure about your car, but my '01 SSEi has 8 speakers with great separation, so there's some type of crossover network or something in place to allow the correct speakers to handle the correct frequency. I don't think you will be pleased by throwing a ton of money into some speakers if you are not sure exactly what the impedence (ohms) of the stock speaker is. I don't know how the speakers got damaged, but I would im harofreak or post something in "wanted to buy" and you should get a stock one really cheap.
However, if you are looking for a whole lot of noise, and not necessarily interested in the quality of the noise, then by all means, tear out the monsoon system and throw thousands of dollars at some crutchfield stuff and you can blow the windows out of your car.

I'd go with stock speakers. Your monsoon system provides a great sound with potential for pretty good volume with great separation and crisp clarity.

^ I beg to differ. I replaced my non-blown front door speakers with a random set of MTX TDX6502 as Ed originally mentioned in the first post. I had them lying around from a previous car, and they didn't cost me more than $80-90 about 3 years ago. For installing into the GXP, I didn't care about any of the specs, impedances, or anything, yet there was a night and day improvement. Stock Monsoon speakers are terrible, and you would get a very sizable improvement just by upgrading speakers. Clarity is a million times improved, and bass is better in terms of both quantity and quality.

I used to have to turn down the bass on the equalizer with the stock setup because it was so overwhelming and muddy. Not anymore. :)

Specs as per http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_759 ... X6502.html :

Code: Select all

6-1/2" 2-way dome axial car speakers
Power Handling:

Peak: 240 watts per pair / 120 watts each
RMS: 120 watts per pair / 60 watts each

Polypropylene cone woofer
Treated foam surround
Pivoting soft dome tweeter
Shallow mounting depth for easier installation
4 ohms impedance
Top-mount depth: 2-1/16"

Oldman, the stock system is fairly decent on the amp end, the speakers are garbage that's why most members simply replace the stock speakers and leave the amp and headunit alone. Also with regard to comments like this:
Oldman wrote: However, if you are looking for a whole lot of noise, and not necessarily interested in the quality of the noise, then by all means, tear out the monsoon system and throw thousands of dollars at some crutchfield stuff and you can blow the windows out of your car.
It is really recommended that we try not to be dogmatic about things like this especially since audio is primarily a choice based on personal preference, I would suggest trying to remember that not everyone has the same goals when it comes to stereo and while I am certain ed doesn't intend to "blow out his windows" he should have some vastly improved sound clarity with the infinity speakers he is getting

Be aware the Monsoon systems are incredibly notorious for blowing speakers, in Trans-Am's they are 1ohm...whatever you would do I would stick with the lower resistance 2ohm stock rating. If you are going to replace just one speaker for now, find a setup you'd like and buy the one speaker out of it...be ready to buy the rest when you can. There's nothing wrong with the amp or any other part of it, just all those speakers are eventually going to have to go IF they are truly made by Monsoon like the Trans-Am's.

From what we can gather the front door speakers in the 02+ monsoon are 2-ohm and I am pretty sure ed is going to replace both the fronts not just the one

A little late, but Parts Express has had a buyout on Aura coaxial speakers with neo magnets. Aura made some really nice high end stuff and the prices are pretty low.

For future reference, and this should probably be stickied somewhere because everyone tries finding out at some time or another, the Impedance for the speakers in the monsoon system are as follows:

Front Tweeters: 4ohm
Front Door: 2ohm 6.5 in
Rear Door: 4ohm 5.25in
Rear Deck: 2ohm 6x9in

the infiniti's appear to be a 2 ohm speaker
"True Four Ohm Impedance technology: speaker's 2-ohm impedance combines with speaker wire impedance for a 4-ohm load"
per:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZEgmMWPUdj ... 032si.html

Should work well. Please report how it sounds... Looking to upgrade myself here very shortly. Every review says they lack low tones.. good mids and highs but no lows... Something to consider..

That's pretty much true of all infinity speakers, mine lack bass as well, but you really don't need much bass in the doors

The rear 6x9's really handle the bass, so I think these should be fine...

Agreed, i was considering getting the mounting cups for the door speakers as well. I dont know if the factory has something simmilar but that should help produce more sound... like having a sub in a box vs free air.

I would definitely try those mounting cups, they're cheap and should help insulate the speaker. My speakers are too deep or I would try them too
