Door Speaker 03 w/ Monsoon

This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Door Speaker 03 w/ Monsoon

Post by 00Beast »

So my driver's door speaker is shot on my 03, and I might as well upgrade while I'm gonna have everything apart. Looking on Crutchfield, I found these: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206KS60A/K ... html?tp=95

Will they be decent for my application? The rest of the speakers will be stock for now, and I don't want to spend a ton of money. Just something better than stock and will fit decently.

they may work but you will not be able to use that cover at all because of the design of our speaker insert

looking at that lip though it maybe some what difficult to have them sit flush also when you take your old ones out if i was you i would do what i did cut the addapter to the speaker (the one on the actual speaker) so you dont have to tap directly into the wires make for a cleaner look

What is the impedance of the monsoon system? Personally if I had to do it again I would try to find a component system for the front doors, I know the monsoon system has a separate channel for the tweeter, were you planning on leaving the stock one connected and just replacing the door speaker.

Also I am sure you know this but Crutchfield is literally the most expensive place to buy speakers, try onlinecarstereo.com and sonicelectronix.com and of course there is always eBay and amazon

As far as the wires go, most gp's and other GM cars use the same plugs. But on their speakers the plug is attached by a small length of wire. So just head to the junk yard and cut yourself some custom speaker adapters

Samples: I could care less about the grilles, they'll be behind the stock grilles. It's not for the look.

Impedance: No Idea. Yes, I was gonna leave the stock tweeter.

I'm not saying I want/have/need to buy from crutchfield, I just wanna know what is good and what isn't.

I'm fine with cutting and soldering. I don't know of a pick and pull yard within 2 hours of me. They all have warehouses or have their guys pull them.

Bump. Got some cash for x-mas, and I want to put it towards these, and replace them before I head back. Still not really sure what I want. I know Jerry (repinS) likes the MTX's he put in his car. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'd like to keep them around $75 and of a reputable brand.

I would check out pioneer speakers as well, and not Walmart pioneer I mean the real mid level pioneer speakers. If they still have a D series that's what I would check out

Find a speaker that realistically matches the RMS output of the amp, has a high sensitivity rating, and a nice broad frequency response. If you find that go with it and your ears will be happy. The higher the sensitivity rating of the speakers, the louder they will be at a given volume, and a nice broad frequency response will make everything much more clear.

The front door speakers on my 02 with the monsoon system are 2ohm..if you replace the speakers with a 4ohm speaker you will notice that you have to turn the volume up higher for louder music.

I have been following these for awhile

Not sure if you have a set budget here, but you definately shouldn't leave the stock tweets imo. I know you liked how my system sounds, that's a $250 pair of fronts and no rears. 250-400 is the sweet spot for components I think.

Do yourself a favor and listen to as much different stuff as possible.

That is unless I'm mistaken and you just want something that makes sounds to replace the stock sound-maker thingy.

If I didn't have $200 for headers, what makes you think I have $200 for speakers?! LOL. I just want something to replace the speakers that is at least as good, but preferably better...

Then maybe get some from Andrew?

Good car-fi is as much about controlling outside noises from deadening and other means, as good equipment.

I wouldn't replace speakers with aftermarket until you can do all of them, and you'll probably be better off with aftermarket power for them as well, whether an amp, or head unit.

I would agree with all but one point here, doing all speakers is a bit of a waste unless tou have the ability to aim them all and manage to get good imaging from the rear. imho its much better to put the money for rears towards better fronts and a quality install.

I don't believe Andrew has any Monsoon speakers. (Yes there is a difference). That and I want to fix them over break, and he's in Montana this week...

This isn't a "car-fi" setup, it's replacing a broken speaker with another. I'm not putting any more into it than I have to. The stock setup was fine for me, I want something that works as good or better, without a lot of money or any more work than I need.

If I were shopping in that price range, I would hit these up - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB651S/ ... html?tp=95

Good frequency response, could go a little lower, but you have the speakers in the rear deck to take care of that. Hits up a little higher frequencies then the Kickers you posted, and they will also be louder then the kickers at any given volume with the higher sensitivity rating. Also good RMS power rating.

I have upgraded to Alpine Type S speakers throughout my car and have been very happy with them. They get a little distorted when at full volume, but I believe its due to the HU. I don't recall the price, I purchased them a year and a half ago...I'm sure there's much better speakers out for the buck now.

No. Of all the things I will/have bought off of craigslist, speakers will not be one of them...

Now I'm torn between the Polk's and the Infinity's that were listed before.

Looks like the Polk's are designed for marine use, not saying they're bad, but it's interesting.

If I had to do it over I would get the shallow mount version of my infinity speakers for the sake of clearance
