no power seat movement

Post by FireDevil »

Hey guys here's my issue. I have a 99 sse. And the power seats won't move forward/back/up/dn. But the various lumbars work fine. When I push the buttons I hear a relay click up front but nothin from the motor except a noise like it wants to move but cant/won't. Any suggestions ?

Edit: after waiting a bit the passenger side seat works fine. It moves up n down even if the drivers seat is selected. Yet the inflator for lumbars still function correctly on the seat selected

The problem description is so flaky, the only thing I can recommend is taking the console switch assembly out and either replacing with a known good one, or taking the old one apart and cleaning. I actually diagnosed this same thing for a guy. He chose the take it apart route and it fixed it for him. He said as soon as he took it out he knew it needed cleaning.

Each seat has a control module, but when you gave your edited comment, that throws out the swapping module test. I would also advise you to check the ground buses under the carpet at the front edge of each front door.

I also had a somewhat similar issue with my old 93, drivers seat would sometimes work when the switch was on the passenger position. Flipping it back and forth made it work right, I am sure the switch was just dirty.

I don't know if they even still make the stuff, but it sounds like a job for TV tuner cleaner. You used to be able to get it at places like Radio Shack back in the days when TVs had big, manual tuning knobs on the front of them.
