No evidence of any issues under the hood. But then again, I don't have your typical coating on the under side of the hood on that car, either.

I'm perfectly content with my Delco Professional 7 year battery in the 98 SSE. 50 months free replacement, 84 months total prorated. Was only about $100. That just replaced the barely-branded interstate that was in there, that apparently is a reboxed-rebranded-rejected Delco 60 Series. Or so I was told by the Distributor that sold me the 7 Year Professional. According to the date code..it only lasted 10 months.
Probably going to get a DieHard Platinum for the Avalanche when its EverStart MAXX dies. (28 months so far without a flaw) 48 month full replacement, 100 months prorated. Can't beat it! Especially with the kind of power they've got.
INTERSTATE is what's been in every other car I've had previously. The one in my Ciera just up and died one day..and the green top 75 that was in the 93 SE completely shorted out one night, cutting the engine while driving, instantly. 78 Interstate MegaTron Plus black top 85 month is what went back in there. The green top had a date on it of 2002 when I got the 93. It was definitely due for death. Black top was a bit expensive...$130
Just replaced the Sebring's battery today. It had its original Mitsubishi group 86 in it, manufactured 2004. It was getting a little slow...but actually wasn't bad yet. We just decided it probably would have died in the heat this summer...when it was least expected...so it makes sense to just replace it now. A Delco Professional 6 year went in there. 30 months free replacement, 72 months prorated. Somewhere around $80 for that one.

I have had too many issues with Interstate Batteries.. Had a couple of them die early on.. And holding a charge
My 03 Has an interstate, 2 years old now... Previous owner had it installed.. Huge battery.... so far sooo good... for now..
The Van believe it or not has Jinx's original battery( EverStart Maxx )... I think this battery first saw use in 05... Brad got rid of the 93 SSEi and I think the battery sat for several months... I put it on the charger and it was still at 60%... Its been way over a year and the battery is still kicking along...

The EverReady Walmart 800 CCA batt I just replaced in the Jeep was 4 years old and cost $100 to replace.

Those Wal-Mart EverStart batteries are pretty good. There's one in my Buick. The OEM Delco went in at 1 AM during the middle of an upstate New York snowstorm. The EverStart has been kicking for a year and a half now. Johnson Controls makes an excellent battery.

Two weeks ago had a Sears Diehard Gold die in my wife's `01 GPGT. It lasted 5.5 years. Had 3-year full replacement, 5 years prorated after that (total of 8 years of warranty). I've never had a battery last 8 years. This was actually the first Diehard Gold I've ever had *die*. I was wondering how long they would really last, as I never believed it would last 8 years. So 5.5 was reality. I'm happy if I get 5 years, so I was okay with it.

I have 1 Everstart right now thats at 8 Years... The other did 7 then a cell went... The one in my 95 is on 6 years iirc..
Have a motorcraft battery that refuses to die... Its 8 or 9 years old... Another is 5 years old( Duralast Gold ) its still kicking... And the other Everstart is 2 years old... and the one on the van is 5 years old... Worst I have ever done is 4 years out of a Johnson Controls Battery

The new Optima is doing fine, but something has been bugging me. I had originally installed a voltmeter and trans temp gauge in my A-Pillar pod (wideband and boost in the knee pod), but when I went to the first intercooler prototype, I removed the voltmeter and installed a manifold (post rotor) temp gauge in place of the voltmeter.
Yesterday, I dug out the old voltmeter, took apart the power end of a cig lighter power adapter, drilled a couple holes, wired my gauge into it, and epoxied it to the back of my gauge. I can now plug my matching voltmeter into the cig lighter in the dash to keep an eye on things.
