Top Tier Gas

I have been running top tier gas for quite some time <Shell mainly>, and am trying to figure out, which is better? Shell, or Chevron? I have heard that the 3800 takes a liking to the Shell V-Power, but I have also heard good things about Chevron with Techron too. Opinions? I also use 88 octane, so take that into account also <Midgrade around here>
Any other selections welcome too.

I used to pump gas at chevron... I've worked at other fuel stations too... You can smell the difference... Oregon is a No Self Service state... Means no dispensing your own flammable liquids... Anyways Chevron is the best fuel that i have found plus get some mileage outta of it... Arco, Safeway, and other cheap gas stations are low grade fuels and a lot of time contain water or lots of moisture and usually last off the truck or the load...

For me it's typically Holiday since there aren't any of those you listed within 15 miles of me.
The only ones within 100 miles of me are Chevron (rare), Shell, Quicktrip, Texaco (rare), and Phillips 66 (rarer by the day).
BUT, if I am needing gas and spot a Shell station I make sure that is where I fill.

I just delivered my 98 GTP to it's new owner in TN and on the trip out there I only ran Shell. The car was tuned to 19* advanced @ WOT and when I got Shell V-Power 94 octane in TN the car was insane. I wonder how much timing I could have run because it had 0* knock with 91 octane.

Well what the hell...we only have shell and road ranger around here thatr on the list. My Yukon liked that extra octane point from road ranger tho.

We have Kwik Trip around here. I usually go there because they have 92. I'd like to run some 93, but I've never been anywhere where there was 93, or 94.

We have lots of sketchy Shell stations down here. I always seem to get worse economy and power on their regular gas than the ethanol-free no-name station I typically fill at.

Thats really hard to calculate. Winds, driving style, and road conditions can vary in so many ways. Like if you got 5 mpg more, then Id say its def the gas.

I know a few people who work at a refinery and they tell me all the gas is the same. The only difference is what addatives are put in. I would drive past this refinery all the time and it was nothing to see a Shell truck on one side of the filling station and a chevron on the other. Then later you would see some independent truck filling up.

I usually stick with either Shell or Chevron though.

Seriously...I'd agree with that. I seldom run BP gas, but I in fact have gotten better than average mileage on BP fuel in every car I've kept track of it in, and its pretty consistent.

Chevron is my pick for best top tier fuel. They've always been a favorite of mine, and I'm so thrilled that they've been building, and are just about to open one just up the road from my house, since the closest before that was 10 miles to the north.

Shell is definitely a close second though..and is generally where the truck gets most of its fuel. I tend to personally frequent Marathon. They've generally got the best price in town, and its always a nice station to go to. They were also one of the last no-ethanol stations in our area, and usually supported them for that. Mileage definitely dropped when everything got switched to ethanol blend.

Just because BP isn't Top-Tier doesn't mean it's technically not...you see...these gas stations set up and pay for (IIRC) to be on the list, and go along with being tested regularly...that doesn't mean that BP wouldn't meet standards.

We have Aviation gas at a couple of the pumps down here in SWFL. The guys with the swamp buggies and air boats use it up. Its not cheap though. Closer to 5 bucks a gallon.

its like 103 unleaded, good for lots of compression and timing, IIRC its the highest octane rating w/o adding lead
