Whoring the bowtie

Post by LeSabreUltra »

She's very dirty inside and out, needs a good cleaning that I'll probably do tomorrow. The Liquid Glass seems to be doing a good job of hiding the outside dirt.

Up soon for this one is a new head unit with six new speakers. The stock one has taken a liking to blowing the rear two and cutting out the front right speakers entirely off and on. It's got to go.

After that I'm looking at leather seats to bump the interior up a level. Reupholstered, not replaced...I don't want to deal with the hassle of having to add all the extra crap and stuff that most of the trucks with leather seats had.

Also thinking about clear corners but I'm not sure how that would look on this truck.

About to cross 55k miles. This is likely what I'll be rolling up to SEBF 09 in.

I guess you have to own one to love them :sad5:

Anyway, I cleaned it up today and went exploring all over the place. Mostly to a few different hydroelectric dams because that's what I'm studying to work with as a Civil Engineer.

I have a bunch of random pictures from the trip but I guess I'll just post the ones of the truck.

Got to attack some twisties too...the truck handles those surprisingly well. At least as good, if not better than my LeSabre with the F41 suspension. Springs are just as firm, the shocks are firmer than the F41. It rolls a little more due to the higher center of gravity but it sticks through the corners pretty well.

She runs and drives sweet.

That's all I guess.

Were those hydro dams owned by TVA? The company I work for performs fire protection work in industrial occupancies and a few years ago we did a bunch of the hydros for TVA. I've been to Wheeler, Wilson, Watts Bar and Kentucky Dam and co-workers visted several other sites. I got a little claustrophobic when I was down in the penstock area (lowest part of the dam). Not a good place to think about what would happen in an earthquake - if you even get those down there!

Thanks John.

Actually, those were Alabama Power Dams (Martin, Thurlow, Yates), we're a little south of the TVA. I've been in a couple, they're very interesting!

Looks good. My uncle has a GMC Sonoma. Real nice looking. I do have a slight bias towards the newer S10 body style (bigger headlights).

Thanks guys! It's a great truck. I love exploring new places in it.

It's actually plastic, not rubber...which I'm glad of. When the day comes to repaint the truck I'm going to paint that part silver like the rest of the bottom half. I'm also going to paint the mirrors and door handles red like the rest of the upper half. I agree with you and think all that would make it look a lot cleaner. :)

Me too actually...if it weren't my grandad's truck (I remember it from way back when he bought it new, I was 9) I would probably do a front end swap to a newer S10/Blazer front for the composite headlights. The older look does grow on you after a while though. I kinda like the bigger chrome grille that the older style offers.

I can get out about 5-10 miles depending on outside conditions and terrain, etc. The radio was peaked and tuned and I tuned/grounded the antenna. I'm not running an amp currently.

Thanks Dave.

More than likely the S10 will be coming down for SEBF, the LeSabre at 156k has been 'retired', it only goes on short trips and cruises around town these days. I'd still trust it to take me to the end of the world if I needed it to, but ya know...I hate to see those miles rack up.

And yeah, all the mud is gone thankfully! Taking out the whole interior and giving it a good pressure washing did wonders.

Well, I was going to create a new thread but there already seems to be a lot of threads in here about my truck, so...

Today I swapped out the MagnaFlow muffler for a Flowmaster 40 series. I just really like the way Flowmasters sound, and this one is no exception.

Turn up the bass!

It's been raining all day and now it's dark, but that should give a good idea of what it sounds like. Very nice and rumbly.
