Rear Engine Mount

How can I determine that its' bad?

Is it possible to see from the engine bay or do I need to get underneath the car?

You might be able to squeeze in and catch a glimpse of it from under the hood, but you'll want to go under the car to inspect it. Checking it shouldn't be to hard. Get the car high enough so that you can get under it and have someone put it in drive, reverse and neutral a few times. If you see the mount moving too much its going bad.

Have you changed any of the other mounts before? The front trans mount is really easy to get to and work with, so be sure it's not that one first. For the record the mount in the rear is the Rear Trans mount, if you go looking for a new one that's what you'll want to look for. The engine mounts are on either side, trans mounts are front and rear.

Changing the rear trans mount is a PITA, at least it was for me. You will need to either lift the engine up or lower the sub frame a couple inches to be able to wiggle that sucker out of there.

I have tried a solid mount and the OEM mount in the front, and both times I was still having a lot of engine movement. IMO, when I installed the solid mount, that put the rear tranny mount on it's last leg.

How many miles do you have on the car ?
I have 186k with over 150k with the solid mount
and my other mounts are still good(even with Cindy driving the car

)

With your foot firmly on the brake, put the car in reverse and give it a bit of gas. If the engine rocks forward, then the rear mount could be bad.

Have you replaced the front mount yet? That'd be what I checked before the rear mount.

Yeah, i had previously tried a solid mount setup, but I had a ton of vibrations. I went back to the stock mount after a controversial affair over my mechanic suggesting the OEM engine mount for inspection last month.

I made it. Bought a 9" X 0.5" Threaded Rod, put it through three hockey pucks and used lock washers and nuts to keep it together. I put thick rubber washers on the ends, under the frame and on top of the transmission bolt on location. I probably should have used some endlink bushings instead. I had too much vibrations for my liking.

I replaced the front one with a napa mount last aug. Now it's bad so I was just going to replace both with oem mounts anyone got the part number for a front an rear trans mount 02 bonnie . P.s will this stop my movement? Or should I overkill an replace all the mounts

If you do the rear mount, let me know how it goes.. I heard it's a little challenging. Not much room to work, so the cradle has to be lowered or the engine raised 2"-3".

okay i orderer my mounts yesterday from gmpartsdirect umm. do u have a hard shift into gears like from park to drive ? i know I do but it comes and goes some times it's not as hard as others idk im just going to change them both in see what happens

If you can remember in what order you removed things to get to the rear mount, maybe we could make a write-up of the replacement process. I still need to get under my car and check to see if mine is damaged.

My rear mount appears to be in one piece, just looks a little extra squishy.

I guess I am just not used to so much engine movement with the stock mounts..

okay well, i just replaced the rear and the driver side mount and i still have lots of engine movement looks like i'm going to replace the front one again ( i replaced it with a nappa one this past summer so I'll go oem this time so I hope this fixes the movement this is driving me crazy and into the poor house lol
