Re: project 40th
Got the car back this morning. I am very impressed with how it turned out.

The seam is right under this rubber seal. I'll remove it and paint up to that line.

I still need to put that door seal back on that covers the rust on the wheelwell.

Here is how the trunk lid turned out. He did a great job. He used a thicker metal plate than the stock sheet metal, so I won't have to use any backing nuts. I just have to align the latch in the correct position. For some reason I think I'm going to be sitting in the trunk for this one.

I'm rather impressed, Andrew.
Once you throw on some touch up paint, it will look quite seamless.
Prior to putting the seal back on in the wheel well, and touching up the new rocker, perhaps some rust preventative primer first as prevention? Or, for maybe the wheel well, a few sprays of undercoating from a can?
Can't wait to see the finished product!

Been really cold/rainy the last few days. I haven't been working on either car. We were in the high 60's and now are well below freezing. UGH.

Re: project 40th
Worked on the car quite a bit today. I didn't take any pics of the progress, but I'll get some up soon.
Got the airmix actuator swapped in, works great.
Swapped the visors.
Swapped the vents.
Swapped the power antennas.
Swapped the steering wheel controls.
Swapped the glovebox latch.
Swapped the 6x9s and door speakers.
Tomorrow I'm gonna pick up some undercoating and spray the bottom of the new rocker molding. Than I'll put a couple layers of paint down and get the rocker molding in place. I am borrowing a nice Porter Cable random orbital polisher to tackle the exterior. After that, only a few issues remain: Mounting the new truck latch and replacing the grumbling motor mount.

Wow, the body work looks pretty good. I'd be satisfied. You'll have that thing looking great by the time you're done with it.

Now you can imagine how I feel about the Grizz in the hands of an 18 year old son.
The new front tires are beginning to round off.

Yup. However, he doesn't drive it much thankfully. He has a 95 GrandAm and 98 Blazer as daily drivers. They are both gross.
Here are the pics.
New vents... ya one is broken, but its better than what it replaced.

New dash vents, and glovebox latch

New visors

New power antenna

New steering wheel controls

Man, if the sellers could see that car now.
Sure appreciate the way you fix em up with original parts and keep em mostly original or with tasteful upgrades.

Re: project 40th
Finally! A beautiful day to work on the car. It was about 50*F and sunny.
I sprayed the pinch weld with some rubberized undercoating, let that dry, and then gave a few heavy coats of the color matched paint. It came out RED at first, but after a few coats, its perfect.

Rocker molding clips go into place…

Mounted…

Here is before I put that rubber weatherstripping in place…

And completed…

Also replaced the clips on the passenger side. I did find some minor rust under there, but not near as bad as the other side.

After that, I turned my attention to the trunk lid. I sat in the trunk while I had my roommate held the trunk shut. I marked the holes to drill and then drilled them. I mounted the latch and tightened it down. It closed and opened perfectly the first time!

So, this is how the car looks now…

Left to do:
Tackle the exterior: wash, polish and wax
Fix that dang motor mount or whatever that is making the grinding noise (still cant figure it out)
