What could the problem be???
Coming home the other day and the car was driving fine and all of a sudden it cut off. Tried to get it started and it wouldnt start. After it sat for about 15 minutes it started up like nothing was wrong and after it ran for about 5 minutes it did the same thing. We are completely puzzled to what could be going on?????

Re: What could the problem be???
If that is the problem how can that be fixed? Something we can do on our own or have to take it to the shop?

Re: What could the problem be???
It could also be the ignition module getting warm, or the crank sensor.
The first thing is it showing the check engine light? Last tune up or repair history?

Re: What could the problem be???
If'''...and I repeat IF it is the fuel pump then it will involve removing the fuel tank...which is a big job...on the older Bonnevilles you can run into strap bolt corrosion issues...and also the lines rusting coming out of the tank

Re: What could the problem be???
The check engine light came on a couple times weeks prior to this happening. We had a tune up about a month ago.

Re: What could the problem be???
You can read the codes yourself by jumping 2 pins on the aldl connector. I don't know if they transferred that proceedure yet, but gimme a minute and I will look.

Re: What could the problem be???
Here is a link with the proceedure. The codes might not be what is listed there, but the proceedure is correct. Post any codes here and we can look at what they mean.

Re: What could the problem be???
I want to say code 26 is Quad Driver Module failure which usually means the ECM needs to be replaced.

Re: What could the problem be???
The main computer that controls most everything engine and emissions related. It is, I believe on a Bonneville, behind the glove box, the panel under the dash has to be removed to get to it as I recall.

Re: What could the problem be???
The ECM would control the inside lights as well then? Is there any way you would be able to know for sure that the ECM needs to be replaced without replacing it or is it just best to do that and go from there?

Re: What could the problem be???
To me, the symptoms say fuel pump and the code says PCM. Test fuel pressure at the rail if you can get it to idle.

Re: What could the problem be???
While installing the amp system in the car drilled through the firewall and scaved a wire and didnt think nothing of it. I loosened the ground wire that is on the passenger side connected to the lights and the oil sensor. Forgot to tigten the ground wire back up and started driving home. Got about 2 minutes from the house and the car shut off. After about five minutes of letting the car sit it started back up with no problem. After letting it run for a few minutes it did the same thing just shut off. Before it shuts off the oil gauge goes hay wire just going back and forth. I realized when looking at where the amp wire was that I forgot to tighten the ground wire. I tightened it and still did the same thing. I was told to change the ECM box and did that. Still the same problem with the car shutting off. Now it won't even start up. I had a code that read to change knock sensor and did that. Same problem not starting again. It is getting gas and fire still noting. Changed the oil pressure switch, crank sensor, cam sensor, and coil pack and ignition module and checked timing chain to see if it jumped teeth and still not starting. It acts as though the timing is off. Can hear that it is trying to start but it sounds like it is misfiring. Sprayed starter fluid and still not starting. We thought that the catalytic coverter was clogged and took off the exhaust and still wouldnt start. Does anyone have any other suggestions to what could be causing the car not to start?
P.S. Do you think are best bet would be to just get the car analysed?
