For an intercooler install, I'd think a paper gasket would be far easier to deal with. OEM paper will be much cheaper, too.

For trimming the IC opening and such much easier. I had to use tin snips to cut it and then make sure all the edges were perfectly flat again afterward so it sealed right, twice. I used the stock Gen V gaskets from ZZP, so they weren't too expensive, but paper would probably be cheaper.

So hows the weeks progress looking Thomas? I know you, you are going to take your sweet time for this.

Bingo... your good.

Yesterday I:
- Cleaned the N* TB adaptor plate, its ready.
- Cleaned up the TB, its ready.
- Cleaned up and cut open the LIM, need to finish porting the intake runners and polish them, a few hours, I'll most likely get it done tonight.
- Cleaned up the LIM bolts, there ready.
Still need to polish the intake on the Blower and cut the H-bar.
My snout turndown tool arrived today with a phenolic coulpler and synthetic snout oil.
I never made it to the GM dealer to get my parts today, work was on the edgy side, I'll get them tomorrow, I hope to have it installed Thursday, tune it Friday and maybe Friday night I will have burned up enough gas tuning that it will be track ready... before it gets too hot.
Suposedly the high temp was 93* today. it was nice but it didn't feel that hot. Bob sad it will cool down again before summer, he knows if anyone does.
In the month of March I have 3/6, 3/13, 3/20 & 3/21 and I imagine those are going to be the last cool nights until November so I need to get it done. My family is always screwing up and consuming my time and its "Pi$$ing me off. :angry4:
oh well.. i need to get dinner ready, the wife is super sick and I've been Mom & Dad for three weeks now..
After I get the kids fed I plan to get my but in the garage and make some progress.

I worked on the LIM last night. it took hours, I finally finished just smoothing down the rough stuff. This was the worst LIM intake runners I've seen in years, just terrible.
now the intake runners are nice and smooth, I put the sander spirials on the die grinder and polished up two of the runners, holy crap, that freakin thing rocks. :headbang:

I strill have to polish up the rest of the runners but its in great shape now, I should have a super free flowing intake..

If the blower intake turns out as good as the LIM... this thing is going to haul... :laughing1:

Now I hope my injectors can keep up and its a good thing I'm switching my MAF because the old one would have never kept up.

X-2 ??? :bhuh:

Anyway,
LIM is finished and I'm super happy, this is by far the best LIM polishing job I have ever done. I'll take pictures later before I install.
I took the blower apart last night and will smooth & polish the intake today. I was able to save the original blower gasket 100% so I only need to make one gasket and of course I'll use my known gasket modification tech trick on the existing one.

The GM parts guy finally called, they have my parts. so... if I can get tomorrow off from work, I'll get it all together tomorrow. maybe I'll get it tuned enough to make it to the track. if not, I'll make it to the track the following Friday, or the next weekend after that they run street legal Friday & Saturday.

Picks will come soon.

Another update.
No pictures taken yet.
I finished the blower, its polished completely thru the intake and the V-grove has been polished and last of all the H-bar is gone.
Now all I need to do is assemble the blower.
I simply need to stick the impellers back in, a touch of grease will go in there first and yes I have the right stuff.
then the new green coupler goes on, snout goes on and then i need to pull the ZZP hub off and swap it with my Pulley Boys hub.
Take a measurment and turn down the snout so I can run my 2.5 pulley and the blower is done. oops.. fill the snout with snout oil.
I have gasket material, ready to go there.
I picked up my LIM gaskets so I'm ready there too.
All I need is an engine oil filter because i will change out my oil once my assembly is completed
Then... assembly.
My boss gave me Friday off so I'll be in the garage all day tomorow/Friday.
if I get it all done and do well with the tune, I'll go to the track Friday night because they are open for street legal drags every Friday this month.
Pics tomorrow.

I hit a brick wall last night, so to speak.
The Gen 3 and Gen5 IC core's are so different that it doesn't make sense to even try to hack up this core, my current core is a good IC core and I can simply buy a new Gen5 core for about $659.00
I need to put the car back together enough to get my emmisions test and get my registration done by 3/15 then move along with my project. sux..
I ned to sell some stuff to pay for a relacement core.
anyone want to buy a ZZP GenII, not series 2 but GenII IC core with the phenolic bottom half?
I have some other parts laying around that I'll try to sell off .. .. ..

Well that sucks. I would have thought all you would have to do is machine the larger part of the intake just like the LIM.

I figured I'd post up an update for the members that don't stray far from this site.
ZZP has the GenV IC cores in stock but they aren't the phenolic material, I asked Zoomer when they will have the phenolic, waiting for an answer.
So in the meantime... some updates on this project.
Here is a pic or two of the LIM P&P not including the port match because I haven't lined up the new LIM to the heads yet.
of course I had to cut open the LIM for full flow thru the IC.
In this photo you can see the cylinder number 2 & 4 intake runners port & polish work.
Image
This is a cool photo of, I think cylinder number 4 or 6 looking thru to 5... or the reverse...
Image
Some parts laying around.
Image
Now for some blower P&P.. actually just polishing.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Pulling off the ZZP hub, its for sale BTW.
Image
This is the tool that turns down the snout for sub 2.8" pulleys. and BTW, I own it so if someone needs to use one,
Image
Now the proper hub is installed and the pulley is on and looking good.
Image
And for those of you that are wondering how much clearance I have for the pulley... probabely because ZZP goes way beyond and it looks like crap.. here is a side clearance shot.
Image
Now for the other end, the TB adaptor plate and N* are already installed.
Image
Another angle.
Image
I guess that's good for now.
I'll post more as things progress.

What's the difference in the IC cores that are available and that you are waiting for? What is the difference between that pulley hub and the MPS set-up and are there any pulleys to go with it?

Otherwise looking good, can't wait to see it run again. Kinda missed it last year. So, what part does motorola make for your car? It looks like a motorola razor there on your parts table.

Thomas, the two GenV's I've done, I filled the EGR......I have pics around here somewhere. Pretty stout, but could be undone later. I taped up the inside, flipped it over, and filled with JB Weld. Might allow for a little smoother flow in that inlet.

Looking good so far!

I did lightly roughen up the inside with an aggressive carbide dremel bit just to give it some insurance. Other than that, just made sure it was clean. Purposely over-filled both (loose tape on the inside that allowed a bulge) and then re-shaped it as I ported the inlet.
