Re: can a 3800 spin a bearing completely out of nowhere?

The parameters you are seeing when the knock and racket start sound about right for when the Torque Converter Clutch tries to apply. If you have a mind to try and lock it out to see if that is the root cause of the power loss, Pin "C" on the transmission harness connector is the TCC apply solenoid ...

Re: 89 Lesabre blowing transmission output seals

Did the mechanic do anything to the surface of the axle where the seal rides? I mean, a new seal on a rusty or pitted shaft isn't going to last very long. Also if it was installed dry, it will also self-destruct before the fluid from the transmission works it way into it. That's pretty much the case ...

Re: Sudden stalling problem

Classic or not, It doesn't appear to be the case this time around. Probably nothing more than a plugged up IAC or filthy MAF sensor.

She's going to be doing front brakes in a few weeks, so we'll see if the acceleration problem returns. The ignition module connector was cleaned and repacked a few ...

Re: Front Struts for a 89LE..Recommendations?

Digging around for rock auto shippers from 2009...

Monroe-Matic Plus 801799 rear struts
Monroe-Matic Plus 801632 front struts

I also had AirLift bags in the rear end (I towed trailers with the Bonnie.) I did the rears first, along with all the other FE2 suspension parts first (springs, bushings ...

Re: Front Struts for a 89LE..Recommendations?

I pretty much did the same thing to the 90. Monroes on all four corners, with as many FE2 suspension parts as I could scrounge and source. (OEM springs, seats, swaybars, with new bushings.) Only problem was dealing with seller substitutions under that same PN for the front struts. Eventually got the ...

Re: '90 SSE Tach Needle

You have a number of connection points to get the tach signal from the module all the way back to the dash. The ones in the harshest environments are up in the engine bay, right at the connector going into the ignition module, plus another harness connector right about where the alternator is ...

Re: Sudden stalling problem

Ok, so long as it stays constant around 40, you are in good shape there. It has always hovered around one reading during all driving conditions (except when I was feeding Nitrous Oxide to the motor, when the extra fuel being dumped out of the rail caused the needle to drop a little.) Otherwise, you ...

Re: Sudden stalling problem

What you are seeing is correct (to be honest, I forgot the dash had a vac gauge, I remember the Fuel Pressure and O2 sensor gauges).

Vac always runs opposite of throttle.

When the car is decelerating, the throttle is closed and the engine is acting like a big air compressor spinning back down to ...

Size of the front brake caliper bolts on a 90 Bonneville?

Hi All,

I can't remember and need to get the correct size hex bit for someone else... I seem to recall that the pins that hold the caliper to the spindle were 10mm allen heads. Is that correct?

Re: Sudden stalling problem

Ok, post what you find when you check something out. If you confirm the fuel pressure, or find a broken vac line, etc. note your observations in this thread. So anyone following along and offering advice can mentally cross it off the list of possible causes and maybe see a clearer picture of what is ...

Re: Working on the car, need some advice

Well after another hour or 2 of trying to get it out last night, including help from my father, it was a bust. will have to try again another day.

Patience and try it again. It has to be a tight fit to get the pickup all the way down to the bottom and back and still have a float with enough ...

Re: Sudden stalling problem

Another guess in the household is that the idle just needs to be adjusted. (Not my opinion, and I really don't want to mess with that until I get a more solid answer)

Not a good idea. Idle adjustment isn't needed, the TB is set at the factory and there's nothing about the engine's configuration ...

Re: Sudden stalling problem

(Just FYI for the rest of the group, the car in question used to be my '90 Bonnie, who's history is pretty well documented here on the forum.)

The problem as described to me over the phone is an erratic idle and poor driveability under any kind of load, the load from the transmission when putting ...

Re: My Poor '90 Bonnie.... running rough

Car is fixed. Paid shop to replace the spark plugs and wires. A few of the wires had badly degraded jackets and the plugs were worn out according to the mechanic who changed them out. Thinking back, it was probably before the 2009 SEBF when the plugs were last changed with plain delco plugs..I guess ...

Re: gm steering wheel compatibility

GM kept the basic steering column the same for a very long time. Very likely that any 80's GM wheel wheel will attach. You'll have to address the issues of not having an airbag connected to the system and what to do with the excess column wiring for the bag and controls.

Re: My Poor '90 Bonnie.... running rough

Naw, I ditched the Magnavox pack years ago. Fortunately, I had put the '93 coils on in the factory order (so the numbers match the factory illustrations...I was kinda worried that I had them in a different order or two coils with the same number on them from mix and match.)

So, she managed to do ...

My Poor '90 Bonnie.... fixed

Well, I knew something like this would happen sooner or later.

My daughter and her boyfriend managed to temporarily kill the bonnie. The story that got fed to me was that they were cleaning the car. Then got the not-so-bright idea of cleaning the spark plug wires. Car went from running fine to no ...

Re: HAUNTED BONNEVILLE!!!

You are correct. That is definitely not a '67 front end. Good eye! I didn't notice that at first either.

That could easily be true... It's a commercial hearse/ambulance. Final assembly wasn't done by Pontiac, it was done by the coach builder that finished the partial vehicle. (in other words, the ...

Re: 4winns boat

That's a unique way to do the interior, bit of over-kill in terms of structure, but you'll probably have to replace it again in a few years unless you sealed that lumber and plywood with epoxy or multiple coats of varnish. Looking at the mess around the belly tank brings out not-so-fond memories of ...
