Re: PO741 Code
When I had that same code with my GXP, I called a number of specialty transmission shops in my area to inquire about getting it fixed. They all stated that the transmission had to be removed from the vehicle, and rebuilt or replaced, because there was only the one code stored. Not sure why that was ...

Re: P0741 Transmission Rebuild
I have the car back from the dealer for the second time, and all seems good. I have put 600km on it, and it is running and driving beautifully again.

Re: Next Car After The Bonneville
Absolutely. However the CTS is already more HP, and quicker than the GXP. I'm satisfied with that.

Re: Next Car After The Bonneville
My research tells me there may have been. It also tells me that oil changes may not have been done often enough, and oil levels kept full on the dipstick between changes.nos4blood70 wrote:

304HP with the CTS is plenty of power.... My wife wouldn't know what to do with 400+ HP in the CTS-V!

No interest in a CTS here, unless it has "-V" after it.

Next Car After The Bonneville
Hey guys,
I'm considering selling my 04 GXP, and looking at something newer. Its too bad there are no more Bonnevilles to choose from...
I like the sports sedan look and feel, and am thinking about an AWD 2009-2012 Cadillac CTS. Looks like the engine options are the 3.6 or the 3.0. Can ...

Re: Over heating? water pump? ?????
A drop in temperature as the coolant flows through the radiator is normal. If it was clogged solid, you would be overheating continuously.
Testing the coolant for exhaust gasses, is the only real way to know what is going on.

Re: P0741 Transmission Rebuild
You folks are not going to believe this....
The car drove just fine for about 3 days, and the check engine light is back on with the same P0741 code.... Took it back to the GM dealer, they have checked everything over, and determined that the new GM rebuilt transmission is faulty! :roll ...

Re: P0741 Transmission Rebuild
So.... I decided to go ahead with the transmission repair at the dealer. They swapped out my transmission with a GM rebuilt. While I paid a bit more than I wanted to, I now have a 36 month 160000KM transmission warranty, that is transferable should I decide to sell the car. I dropped the car off at ...

Re: P0741 Transmission Rebuild
Got a quote today, to replace the transmission with a rebuilt from the dealer. 3 years or 160000km warranty, for $3500 Canadian installed, parts and labour. Very tempting but still a lot of money to put into a 14 year old car... Having said that, here is a list of things that I have already done to ...

Re: P0741 Transmission Rebuild
All of my research is telling me that just changing the TCC when you only have the one code, that being P0741, will not fix the problem. If the car didn't have 215000km on it, I might risk it and try it anyway, but it just seems like too much of a risk to do all that work, and then have to drop the ...

Re: P0741 Transmission Rebuild
Both link to a service procedure, which in order to do, requires the transaxle being removed from the car, which requires subframe dropping.
Here is a video showing its removal, without dropping the subframe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtOvzj4rEBE Granted this is in Cadillac, but the basics ...

Re: 05 GXP - No heat at idle - car heats up
When I was refilling mine with fresh coolant, I too had air trapped in the system. It seemed the best way to remove it, was to drive the front wheels up on some ramps, and then disconnect the upper hose from the radiator. This then became the highest point in the cooling system. If I recall, I was ...

Re: P0741 Transmission Rebuild
I would be very surprised if a $200 scanner has the ability to force the TCC into the on position. The one I have now won't. In addition, I do not have access to a hoist, which is a necessity to drop the subframe.

Re: 05 GXP - No heat at idle - car heats up
The level in the coolant bottle may be normal, but you may still may have air trapped in the system. The gauge going to 220 is a real clue.

Just for $hits and giggles, I put a bottle of Lucas transmission conditioner in it. It wasn't long before the code came right back once at 45 mph.
