Re: Clunking/Popping noise
Get some white out and mark the location of the strut on the knuckle and circle around the bolts on both sides. Should be able to avoid re-alignment.

Re: Clunking/Popping noise
Based upon what I've learned, experienced and experimented with in the last month. I'm willing to bet that your front end noise if not from the struts is your lower control arm bushings. Yes, I know you wrote that you already replaced them. And you also wrote that the problem started after replacing ...

Re: '97 Bonneville 40th Anniversary Edition Stalling
P0300 random multiple cylinder misfire. Probably a bad coil or ICM. Go to the Junkyard and pick up the 3 coils and ICM. Should cost about $50.00
If that doesn't fix the problem then go from there with the op suggestions.

Re: Voltage Drop at Stoplights
I'm pretty sure Autozone can test your charging system for free and determine if your alternator is bad. Sear Auto Centers will probably also do that for you. Other places as well- no need for guess work here. Alternator is a relatively easy DIY fix.

Re: Clunking/Popping noise
I replaced my broken front transmission mount so now I was really able to focus on my front-end popping clunking noise.
What I discovered is that the spring is binding up `as the front wheels turn.

Re: Clunking/Popping noise
You have to remove the front struts from the vehicle in order to inspect the top side of the mounts for any defects.

Great accomplishment, I don't drive my '97 enough to ever be able to reach that milestone. I'll be happy to reach 130k

Re: Clunking/Popping noise
I have the exact same issue with my '97- EXACT!. Have not replaced nearly as many parts as you but have replaced/are replacing those that have obvious wear. My front transmission mount is broken and my new struts are making noise. Several mechanics find no issue with ball joints/control arms/outer ...

Re: Driver's rear window motor inop.
Could be getting stuck in the window guide channels. Try pressing the switch to open while punching the glass with your fist. This has gotten one of my stuck back windows to open when it gets stuck on occasion.

I'm thinking faulty fuel sending unit and or fuel pump inside gas tank. Tank has to be dropped to get to it.

Re: Front Drivers side transmission mount: Anchor vs AC/Delc
In regards to the design of this mount- it is puzzling to say the least. The rear rubber portion of the mount sits up on a riveted rod and is prone to break over time - flopping around. Who ever designed this mount should be banished for life.

Re: Front Drivers side transmission mount: Anchor vs AC/Delc
Actually I did come up with a mod to strengthen the OEM style mount. If you look down from the engine bay you will notice an open space between the mount bracket/transmission and engine. I cut a half moon shaped piece of rubber sourced from the top half of a sway bar bushing. Jammed it real good ...

Ok so I'll talk to myself-as usual.
Ordered the AC/Delco part.

Front Drivers side transmission mount: Anchor vs AC/Delco
Its tempting to save the money on the front transmission mount( the one with the piston) as the Anchor part cost $30 vs $100 for the AC/Delco.
Reading the archives/internet posts- I came across some mention that the holes on the Anchor part may sometimes be off (depending on the batch) and not line ...

I just paid $50 at the JY for a complete bracket with the 3 coils and ICM off a low mileage car. Brought my ohm meter and gave the coils a cursory test before paying.

Brought car to Goodyear to get an independent opinion. They went over the car with a fine tooth comb. There is nothing wrong with my control arm bushings or any front-end part. Without a doubt, 100% certain defective front struts.

Re: Front Stabilizer Bar Bushing size
Rear Quick struts are dead quiet though. I'm extremely frustrated at this point. Ready to throw the towel in after this experience.
Mechanic says it maybe lower control arm bushings. The same mechanic that told me original struts are NG.

Re: Front Stabilizer Bar Bushing size
Broke my azz today swapping the old ones out for new Moog bushings. Still have that front end clunk on each side of the car. Now 1000 times worse since I installed the Quick Struts. I'm asking Monroe for my money back. Those front struts are defective! I had front end noise before but not like this ...

Never mind, figured it out myself. Used an open ended wrench. The bar is 30mm.
