Re: Car door locks

Not sure what you are saying here. We'll need some more information to help you.

Does the key fit into the door locks?
If so, can you turn the key once you insert it into either door lock?

Re: adding heated mirrors

so the wire its missing is the power wire from the defrost button?

It appears so. I wasn't able to trace the wire on the junkyard car back to see where it goes. The unused wire in my car's power mirror wiring harness is a ground. Do the two mirror defrost power wires (one on each side) run from ...

Re: adding heated mirrors

Chances are the extra wires aren't there if the car didn't have the mirror upgrade from the factory. GM almost never included an inch of wiring they didn't absolutely have to.

You're correct. The wiring harness in my SE (non-heated power windows) is missing the positive lead for the heated ...

Re: adding SSEI Seats

Will the standard leather seat covers work on the AL7 seats? I've been looking for a nice set of tan '96-'99 AL7 seats to add to my car, but the leather is always trashed on the ones that turn up in the local wrecking yards.

Re: adding heated mirrors

Look for the blue tint on a 92-99 SSE, SLE, or SSEi. There is no marking.

I found a wrecked 130k miles '98 SSEI with heated mirrors this weekend. It was white, and my SE is green, so I pulled the glass, the motors, and the wiring harness to swap them into my car.

The heated mirrors and the non ...

That's next on my list. Once the weather warms up enough for me to pull a '58 out of the garage and make room, I'll get it done. The current filter and fluid have about 20k on them.

Re: adding heated mirrors

Does anyone know what year and model Bonneville the heated mirrors were available on? Do they have a defroster icon on the mirror glass that shows they are heated? I'd really like to try and find a pair in the junkyard and add them to my car.

Re: 4T60E slipping in 1st gear

First get an adjustable Trans Vacuum Modulator... Your stock unit may be going bad causing the line pressure to be too low.. For the price of a modulator at the parts store its worth a try..

Thanks, the Vacuum Modulator was the problem. I replaced it with a new one and the transmission is ...

Thanks for the advice. I'll pick up an adjustable modulator and see if anything changes.

Re: Factory alarm went off twice last night.

I wanted to post an update to this thread, since I finally solved the problem. I started locking the doors manually to keep the alarm from arming. The next week the power door locks malfunctioned. They would unlock with the lock button and remote, but would not lock with either. I pulled the Body ...

4T60E slipping in 1st gear

My Bonneville just passed 95k miles. The transmission was working fine, but I left the car parked for a couple of days over Christmas, and when I went to drive it this weekend, noticed that it is really slipping in 1st gear. The engine revs, and the car barely accelerates. Once it gets up to speed ...

All the strips work, and the defroster does a good job. It just turns off too soon. I wonder if the thermal switch is available.

Rear defroster turns off too soon

We got our first real blast of cold air in Denver yesterday. Our high isn't supposed to get above freezing for a week. Driving to work this morning reminded me of a problem with my Bonneville. The rear defroster works fine, but it doesn't stay on long enough to defrost the window. The first time I ...

Re: A lesson learned-Power steering fluid vs. ATF

Bob,

Another possibility is that the shop didn't properly purge all of the air from the system when they replaced your rack and power steering pump. As the air bled from the system while you were driving, and as the fluid displaced the air, the level in your reservoir would drop. Did you notice any ...

Re: Factory alarm went off twice last night.

Still having the same issue. I'm wondering if it is temperature related as the alarm doesn't go off during the day -- only late at night. It doesn't seem to matter if I use the remote or lock the door manually. I'm sure my neighbors love me.

I just ordered a factory service manual.

A guy in Denver parted out a 1970 Bonneville a while ago and always has ads posted in the parts section of Craigslist. You might check with him. His number is 303-877-0391. Here is a link to one of his ads for the rear bumper:

Re: Factory alarm went off twice last night.

The alarm has gone off twice since my first post. Both times in the middle of the night, which I'm sure my neighbors love. I'm manually locking the car now so the alarm doesn't arm itself. I hate just throwing parts at the car and hoping I fix the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to ...

Factory alarm went off twice last night.

The factory alarm on my '96 SE went off twice last night. After it went off the first time, I went out and made sure that the hood, trunk, and doors were all closed. It seemed fine, but three hours later the honking horn woke me up again.

I searched the archives here, and I found one thread with a ...

Follow up

I wanted to post an update on this problem. I replaced the transmission filter and filled the transmission with Valvoline Maxlife ATF this spring. The filter neck was so brittle that it broke off inside the transmission. I bought the car with 55k miles on it, so I wouldn't be surprised if the ...
