1998 ABS controller

Is it possible to only replace the electronic brake control module (EBCM)/ and leave the orginal brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) in place. The ABS/traction light stays on, power and ground to contoller is good, but no communication with controller. Thanks!

Re: ABS & Traction stays on

The manual says to rotate the wheel and check the wheel bearing connector end for 100mv. I put the car in gear to spin the wheels and with my Fluke meter set at the 300mv selection, both sides read 0 mv. I can't see any problems with the wires or connections. Anymore ideas?

ABS & Traction stays on

My 98 has the ABS and Traction control light that stays on. During intial key on, the ABS & traction light will not flash, steady on. Both of my wheel sensors are at 1050 & 1100 ohms, which are in spec. Max fuse on firewall and interior fuse panel is good. Any other ideas?

Re: 1998 auto A/C

Really nice diagram! My 98 FSM is pretty much the same. I have pressure in the system and I have 4.2V grey wire at the pressure transducer. I'm also thinking that the pressure transducer is bad. I will swap it out with my other Bonny tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks!

1998 auto A/C

My 1998 auto A/C will not power the compressor clutch. I have no blinking codes on the display and I swapped relays. At the A/C clutch relay, I have power at pin 30 & 86 which is fused power supply. I can get the clutch to engage when I jump pin 30 to pin 87. When will pin 85 get power to or from ...

Re: 1998 SSEI Hi Beam bulb out indicator

Got it! Kids... asked my 16 year old if the lights were working, when I operated the lights from inside the car, he didn't know that I meant BOTH lights! Fixed it and good to go. Thanks!

Re: 1998 SSEI Hi Beam bulb out indicator

I will check. A stone broke my main head light lens and I replaced it with another I had. No after market lights added, all stock.

1998 SSEI Hi Beam bulb out indicator

Hi Beam bulb message center says my Hi Beam bulb is faulty, but hi beams work fine. What makes the message center say the hi beams are out?

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: Traction Control Out

I was laughing too. I have been turning wrenches for over 30 years and it's good to get a laugh once in a while instead of pulling ones hair out. Electrial always seems to be the most difficult thing to troubleshoot, but generally the easist to fix when you have found out what is "broke". Last ...

Have to spend the $$$ if you expect your car to run right and not make you walk. In other words do it right the first time so you won't have to do it again.

Re: POS Engine is now Locked Up-What now?!?

Replace the upper intake. The new upper intakes are beefed up where the old ones were weak. I have did 10 of these and replaced the upper everytime. It is well worth the money not to have any future problems. Did you put any sealer on the LIM bolt threads?

Re: Battery Tray

The battery tray is spot welded in. Drill the spot welds out on the old one, get one from the dealer pn# 25660322 about $35.00 or get a used one. 92-99 Bonneville, 91-96 Park Avenue, 92-96 Lesabre, 92-99 Olds 88 and 91-96 Olds 98 are all the same. Take a cordless drill to the boneyard and drill one ...

Yes, the windshield is different to help reflect the HUD. Like I have said before with enough time, money and energy one can do anything.

Re: another one (idler pulley) dites the dust

If you are VERY carefull, you can use a small 90 degree pick to pull the seal out in the middle of the bearing. Use a needle grease tip to put grease into the ball bearings, then reinstall the seal carefully snaping the seal back into place. You have extended the life of the bearing with fresh ...

Re: couple of 99 bonne questions

What can happen is people stuff big items into the trunk and when they pull them out it will catch and pull the speaker wiring out, There should not be any wires hanging down inside the trunk. One of my cars had this problem when I bought it. Take a look and see.

Try swapping the pass and drivers seat just enough to plug the drivers seat into the pass. I had to do that to narrow down a problem I had with mine.

Re: Engine rebuild or Crate engine

This all depends how much $$ and time you want to spend. I always say with enough time, money and energy, one can do anything they want. The cheapest and simplist would be the 8 hour drive engine, but this depends on your time, money and energy.

Re: Turnable Rotors?

GM's official policy is not to turn rotors, unless there is rust jacking, warping or deep grooves, then they want the rotors replaced as a axle set. I was always taught to turn the rotors with every new brake job in order to seat the new brakes. I had to be opened minded to this as new brake designs ...
