Installing HUD into factory non HUD car

Post by Greg1960 »

I recently purchased a 03 SSEi that is factory equipped with the heated seats and a sunroof. It does not have HUD or the cd changer. What is it going to take to install a HUD and possibly a cd changer into this vehicle? I know I will need the upper dash panel, projecter, projecter mount and dash switch to make it work, but, what do I need for the electrical part? Do I need a dash harness from a car that has HUD, sunroof, heated seats and a cd changer to make sure everything works? Do I need to replace any modules such as the BCM or RIM? If I get a projecter that has the plugs and wiring with it, can I wire it into my existing harness and have it work? Thanks for your time and any/all help is appreciated.

First off Welcome, and congrats on buying one of the best cars 00+!

I honestly have no idea what is all required, but it will be a lot of work. I know harofreak00 put a CDX into his 00, so he knows whats needed with that, but I don't know anyone on here that's added HUD to a non-HUD car. I think it was stupid that HUD was an option on the SSEi in 2003. It was standard up until then, and standard on the GXP's.

I seem to remember that the windshield itself is different.

Yes, the windshield is different to help reflect the HUD. Like I have said before with enough time, money and energy one can do anything.

The windshield has another layer of glass in it to help reflect it. My car doesn't have the HUD windshield, as it has been replaced in the past, and the HUD is much dimmer than on my dad's GXP with a HUD windshield. But, YMMV.
