Sorry if bumping my old thread is frowned upon, but I have an update today!
Earlier this week, one of the mevotech strut mounts failed, the rubber ripped right through and the strut hit my hood. No dent thankfully but it scraped a bunch of paint off.

Steering Rack
Hey all
05 SE, 70k miles.
My steering rack decided to start leaking a little bit, so I figure it's time to replace it. Has anyone here replaced theirs recently with a reman rack and had good success?
Options seem to be BBB, Maval, Cardone, and Detroit Axle. There is one "new" acdelco rack on ...

Re: Front Strut Options
GM mounts were mailed back, replaced with Mevotech, struts are assembled and the car is driving. I didn't have a chance to get an alignment, so i'm not really going to drive much until that happens next weekend.

Re: Front Strut Options
Update, strut mounts came in, and they didn't include the bearings that are listed. I don't know if this is a Rock Auto listing error, or these actually weren't supposed to come with them.
Earliest I can get any aftermarket ones is sunday, so this isn't happening this weekend I guess!

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Today I changed out the intermediate steering shaft, when I got my last alignment the tech said he felt some play in it. I didn't really notice it too badly but figured it was time, and my god what a pain in the ass this was to do. I used the dorman part to replace it and so far it DOES feel a lot ...

Re: Front Strut Options
A friend of mine swears by Detroit axle, but I would never. One side currently is from AutoZone and the other is acdelco, both tie rod ends are giving me some trouble now though. Autozone after 2 years and acdelco after 7 months/2k-ish miles. After a ton of looking into it I'm going mevotech TTX ...

Re: Front Strut Options
Bumping my old thread because my oem struts are leaking below the boot. For carrying the springs over to new struts, will I need anything else(new mounts, bellows, spring insulators etc) and are there any recommendations as far as which to get? I'm looking between Gabriel and KYB for the struts ...

Re: 2000+ Common Problems & Solutions (updated 5.11.11)
Interesting, good to know. I've had the car for 9ish years and it had 15k when I bought it. Original owner must have had them replaced at some point.
I wonder if the gaskets were done at one point? They were plastic but had grey around the openings instead of orange/red as seen in some videos ...

Re: 2000+ Common Problems & Solutions (updated 5.11.11)
I finally took care of it, and also did my intake gaskets and replaced the upper, tensioner, and valve cover gaskets. Believe it or not, the nearly 20 year old coolant elbows came out unbroken and still felt sturdy!

Re: Summit Racing UIM replacement
I'm seeing a lot of recent negative reviews with the dorman, whether it be defects in the shape of it, gasket not lining up, or bolt holes cracking in the same way

Summit Racing UIM replacement
Hi all! I just wanted to ask if anyone has used the Summit EFI upper intake manifold and what your experience was like? SUM-226100
Or is ATP still the recommended aftermarket UIM?

Thanks! This didn't go well. One of the threads on my abs pump is now stripped. PMing you
Edit -
Still alive and back on the road! Ended up taking to a local mechanic to take care of. Had the wrong thread fittings on the break lines. Living and learning and paying for it lol

Re: Pulling to the right
Did the pull start happening right after the alignment? or shortly after? Possible they did the alignment incorrectly or left something loose? I'd take it back and see if they can give you an idea.

Re: 2000+ Common Problems & Solutions (updated 5.11.11)
I've had this thread bookmarked for probably 11 years at this point. With my current car I haven't had too many of the common problems yet, but I am replacing the coolant elbows soon. I saw somewhere about swapping the o rings to the GM rings instead, is that still necessary when using the dorman ...

Brake Line sizes?
Howdy again!
I've been searching for a while, so forgive me if this has been answered, but I'm trying to find out the size of the brake lines for my '05 SE.
I haven't had any issues, but I want to replace them before winter this year.
I measured with a cheap caliper (with dying batteries ...

I flushed my coolant a few days ago, but broke the bleeder valve on the thermostat housing (luckily in the closed position) so I changed the bleeder valve out today. Not much but it's something!

Re: Front Strut Options
Its not so much throwing parts at it just because, but more preparing for the inevitable. They're working but definitely a little worn, and caster is out of spec which I imagine is a symptom of this too. I'll keep you in mind for sure when the time comes!

Re: Updated trans mount design - The Boat Roller Mount
Sent you a PM to see if you're still selling these, I just replaced my worn mount with a stock replacement and it already has a ton of movement again. Not sure if this is a reasonable amount of movement but it seems like more than it should be. I just ordered the rest of the mounts and plan on ...
