Re: Open for advice

From what I've seen indeed the latest generation of Impala is as close as you will get to a Bonneville nowadays as far as comfort, ride, interior room and trunk space in a sedan. I really don't know a lot about the 3.6 motor, but from what I've read it has plenty of power and durability is ok. I ...

Re: 2003 SSEi flexplate question

Several things here to ponder, you bought the new flexplate from the dealer so it should be OEM but who knows, it may have been manufactured in China now. I would compare the area of your concern to the original flexplate, if it looks the same and the original one lasted 14 years ask yourself if you ...

Does the stereo manufacturer have a help line? Might try looking at your installation instructions for their toll-free number.

Re: 1 good thing to say about DexCool...

I've never been a hater on DexCool, I think it's ok as long as you change it out in a timely manner and do clean out that overflow tank when changing coolant! Yes, I did have to have the LIM gaskets replaced with the new aluminum framed ones, but not until 145,000 miles so I fault the original ...

Re: Problem after transgo shift kit install

Glad your problem seems resolved, speaking of magnets, yes the stock rectangular one is inadequate, GM put out a TSB about that some years ago, the replacement is a larger donut shaped one, in fact I used 2 of them when I installed the transgo kit, one in the bottom of the pan and one on the bottom ...

Re: Problem after transgo shift kit install

When I did the transgo shift kit on my 4t65-E on my 04 SLE at 140,000 miles I had purchased the "enhanced" kit from Triple Edge Performance that also included scotch brite to scuff the accumulator walls, new accumulator piston O-rings, and a filter among other things. I couldn't have been happier ...

Re: Knocking Sound

I agree with maxi, start by removing the serpentine belt to rule out an accessory like the PS pump making the noise. If it's not an accessory, use a mechanics stethoscope to narrow down the location of the noise, top of the motor? probably in the valve train, lifters or rockers maybe. Bottom of the ...

Re: LIM, plenum, that *dang* clunking sound, and pics

04Pearl, I'm sure you can rest easy, if as you're saying the shop you're using is highly reputable I'm sure they have performed many 3800 LIM repairs before. In addition to the parts you mentioned I hope you purchased aluminum coolant elbows for the shop to install. I had over 140K miles on my 04 ...

Not sure if a clogged/dirty cabin filter could be the source of your heating woes but it wouldn't hurt to look as it's easy to do.

Just a question, am I reading that right? knock event 6 with a speed of 141 mph? Where were you testing at, Talladega? I hope you have tires with at least a V speed rating.

Re: ***2003 SSEi EGT probe placement***

Your friend needs to listen to you, pyrometers are typically used in turbocharged diesels to alert the operator of an impending problem or more likely if the engine is being "lugged" and a lower gear needs to be selected, e.g. a tractor pulling heavy discs in too high of a gear. I can see no value ...

expand your horizons, look for a nice K1500, I'm sure Minnesota girls like a man with a nice truck and who knows you may be able to get your folks to chip in a little more because you could claim you could use it to help out around the place, lol.

Re: Rear View Mirror Adhesive

Can't advise on the best kit but many years ago when I had the mirror drop problem with a chevy p/u I just took it in to a glass shop to have it reattached. They do this all the time and probably have the best professional grade of adhesives. Can't remember how much they charged me but I doubt the ...

Re: Getting Ready for a Trip

Sounds like you have everything pretty much covered except for the possibility of a clogged fuel filter and/or a failing fuel pump either one of those will leave your car dead along the side of the road. If you don't know the replacement history of those parts might not be a bad idea to take spares ...

They told me the plug was fouled, and that the rings are bad. Im just wondering if its worth it at 122k miles.

A very tough decision that every car owner faces from time to time. General rule of thumb is to dump it if it costs more to fix it than it's worth book value or at trade in. However ...

Re: Fuel pump

The Kent-Moore fuel sender locking ring removal tool I used on my 2004 Bonneville has the part number of J-39765, I could find only one listing for it on e-bay this am, a new one for $129. Hope this helps.

Re: Fuel pump

The specialty tool is made by Kent-Moore and goes for something like $150 new. I picked one up for $75 on e-bay and sold it for $65 to a member of another forum when I was done with it, it was well worth the $10 net plus postage I ended up paying for the use of this tool. You'll need a 1/2" drive ...

Re: something strange with oil filler cap

Easiest non-invasive way to determine if you have coolant or water in your oil is to do an oil analysis at your next oil change. I've used Blackstone Labs in Indiana but there may be labs in Canada that do this also. For $28 US they will give you a comprehensive analysis and for another $10 you can ...

Respectfully, that's kind of the same logic as someone I know who said "It's not that seatbelts are a bad idea, it's just that I don't like being told I have to wear it so that's why I won't."

Oh, I agree on the seatbelts, always wear mine, in fact if a 5 point harness and a full roll cage were an ...
