Re: Error code PO 420

Well I finally have the issue solved.

Turns out it was a dirty MAF sensor, which a local shop caught with their scanner. The signal it was sending was way out of range. (I had no way of checking this with my equipment at home)

The cleaning has eliminated the hard shifting, along with the error ...

Re: Vibration Update - It's Not The Wheels, Tires or Rotors.

My Bonneville developed this problem sometime ago and the problem turned out to be a faulty tire.

The front tire was balanced perfectly, but what had happened was that small cuts from rocks had caused the tread to begin to separate from the core of the tire in a couple of spots.

(I had even ...

Re: Error code PO 420

The bill was about $350 bucks for the install. It was Midas that did the installation and they usually purchase parts through NAPA here.

The thing is that after the before cat O-2 sensor change, the check engine light would come on very shortly after I cleared it. After the O2 change, the check ...

Re: Error code PO 420

I have no idea. It was installed by the local muffler shop. A jober perhaps.

(I was suspicious here also)

Error code PO 420

Hi Everyone:

2002 SSEI

A while back I replaced my CAT due to it rattling. On a long trip shortly after I thought we might have come across some bad gas at a small country station, and the check engine light came on.

Code PO 420 came up.

I replaced the plugs, plug wires and checked coils. Code ...

Re: 2002 Bonneville SSEI Air Mix actuator

Guys:

Well it was something as simple as the thermostat. As it was the cheapest & easiest solution I replaced it and started getting heat once again. This was a new thermostat and while it was opening close to 195 degrees (I tested 3 of them in a pot of water with a digital thermometer) It was ...

Re: 65+ mph Vibration GONE!!!

Wheel Balancing is an art that few are good at. My brother in law happens to be the best.

I installed some high end Michelin's on my Bonneville, had the wheels balanced twice by different shops, and could not get the vibration oit of mine. I took it over to my brother in law who works in sales at a ...

Re: Longevity of Bonneville

A friend of mine traded his SSEI in (Year escapes me but I think it was an 02) and his had almost 400,000 miles on it. All highway miles however.

Re: 2002 Bonneville SSEI Air Mix actuator

Archon:

So after much investigation I can find no reason for my cold heater air. All of the actuators appear to be doing what they are supposed to.

The outside temprature has climbed a great deal here and last night I was able to heat the car up enough so it was uncomfortably warm.

The only ...

Archon:

Thanks so much. This is exactly what I needed!

I am suspecting it is the outside air inlet actuator that may be broken.

Re: 2002 Bonneville SSEI Air Mix actuator

Hi Archon:

I am getting lukewarm air out of any of the settings or positions, with the temprature control set at full. If I turn both temp. controls down I do get slightly colder air. In laymans terms it seems like I am getting half warm air from the heaater core, and half the air is coming ...

Re: Is 3.8 Litre L-67 prone to Intake Manifold leaks.

Hi Everyone:

I managed to get the job completed in what looks like perfect timing. I did find a small amount of coolant in the oil. (A couple of ounces) I changed & flushed oil twice & keeping my fingers crossed there was not any serious internal damage done.

I 1st noticed the coolant leakage on ...

2002 Bonneville SSEI Air Mix actuator

Hi Everyone:

I am having heater problems & it appears to be the Air Mix actuator. Both sides are pumping out the same amount of heat so it appears it is the main mix actuator. Is there anyone who can show me via picture which actuator this?

Is there a way that I can check it?

I can rule out ...

Re: winter oil

I run 5w30 or 0W30 full synthetic in mine all winter, as it gets very cold here. -40 is not uncommon.

I will make this really simple.

10 (weight of oil when cold) W 30 (Weight of oil at operating temp.)

5W30 does everything 10W30 does, and a bit more. It circulates better at very cold temps ...

Thanks so much for the reply.

As per my usual luck I noticed the coolant at -40 Celcius. This will not be a fun job in an unheated garage. I guess it will be off to the parts and liquor store!

Is 3.8 Litre L-67 prone to Intake Manifold leaks.

Hi Everyone:

I am just curious to know if the 3.8 L67 (VIN 1 series engine) is prone to manifold leaks like the L36 engine?

I have noticed some sepage on the top of the intake manifold since I flushed & changed coolant this fall. I have lost a bit of coolant out of the reservous but not much ...
