Re: 1989 corvette hard to start when warm

My guess is something is leaking under pressure. Just pull the hose off the FPR and see if there is gas in the vacuum hose. Otherwise turn the key on and let the fuel pump prime and look for leaks.

Re: Need some opinions on a split CV boot

I look at it this way:

If you are having a shop do the work, just replace the shaft. It has to come out anyway to do the boot. It will be less labor to R&R a shaft. Plus, you get a new shaft with a warranty and are less likely to have problems later.

If you are doing the work yourself and don't ...

Re: Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer

I've used Lucas Oil Stabalizer in some of my vehicles, and depending on the vehicle and the problems you are having, it is good stuff. Like Will said, probably wouldn't use it in a 3800 or any newer cars with tighter tolerance engines because it is thick.
I used Lucas Oil Stabalizer in a 1990 454SS ...

Re: Oil pressure kit install question

Now I'm concerned. I installed this oil pressure spring in my 1994 PAU and I get 40 psi (on the factory gauge) at idle cold. It never seems to go past 40. When it gets hot, it idles just above the red. It instantly rises to 40 when I give it just the smallest amount of RPM. Fresh 10w30 dino oil and ...

Re: 1985 Oldsmobile Toronado engine swap

I'm leaning towards the turbo wheels or the olds SS-II, what do you guys think?

IMO they are not going to look good. The FWD wheels have more offset on the back of the rim. RWD wheels will have more offset on the front of the rim causing the wheel to stick out past the body and look like a ...

Re: a little Grand Prix help..

Well, if it's a late 90's GP, it'll either have a 3800 (S/C or N/A) or the 3100. 3400 was not an option in those cars.

3100's do have some history with vac lines breaking and MAP/MAS sensors going bad.

I'm new to the 3800 world, so I can't help you with that, sorry.

I do know that my '85 6000 ...

Re: a little Grand Prix help..

Find out what engine. I know early 90's 3.1 in the W body required "learning" the IAC when the battery was disconnected. Not sure if that was the same for the 3.4L. Otherwise my guess is to check for a vacuum leak, TPS voltage, etc.

Re: Bolt pattern question.

Since we are on the topic of bolt patterns and types of wheels for our cars....

Has anyone tried mounting 114.3mm wheels from like a Ford or Jeep? I hate the wheels on my PAU, but it has nice 15" tires on it. I was thinking of finding some other OE 15" wheels for it. I like some of the wheels on ...

Re: Bolt pattern question.

Measure from the center on one hole to the BACK of the third hole. This is the easiest way to estimate a 5-lug bolt circle

If you'll notice, it's the only one that says "estimate" in the description. I feel that's just a guide on how to figure a pattern out, and since you don't have two across ...

Re: Bolt pattern question.

5-lug bolt "patterns" are measured from the center of one lug stud to the OUTSIDE of the furthest lug stud. On our cars that distance is 115mm or 4.5275" It is not the bolt circle diameter.

Maybe try Wagner ceramic pads? I think the ceramics create less dust.

Re: now what?

A whirring noise? It could be that the starter was not engaging the flywheel and now is not working at all. If you have power to the small (purple?) wire to the starter solenoid when the key is in the "crank" position, I would say it needs a starter.

Sounds like you have an intermitten break in connection with the yellow wire. I had that problem on a Cadillac I worked on once. I just ran a new wire. Pretty sure it is just a standard wire, no fuses or anything in it.

Re: I think I am burning oil.

A quick fix may be to replace the valve seals. It would only involve removing the rockers and valve springs and replacing the seals.

I have a 2001 Mustang GT with a 4.6L SOHC that would puff blue smoke after sitting at a stop light on a hot day. I would always smell oil buring from the exhaust. I ...

Re: I think I am burning oil.

What weight oil are you using? Is the cat still on the car? How did the inside of the engine look when you did the LIM? Clean or mucky?

Does it puff when accelerating after idling at a stop light?

I still say it is valve guide seals.

Re: Suggestions for hood modifications?

I plan on installing a couple of these louver panels I had made at my work in the hood of my PAU. They do require welding and finishing, but they are functional. If you are interested in purchasing some, shoot me a PM.
