Re: P0171 code won't go away!!!!!!

MAF can cause a p0171 with no vacuum leaks. Failed fuel injector. low fuel pressure. leaking brake booster. O2 sensor stuck lean.

Connect a scan tool watch short term fuel trim. Should show + numbers, pcm adding fuel. Try adding fuel like carb clean down a vacuum line. Fuel trim should show ...

Re: Can't figure out front end noise..

Make sure you torque the c/v axle nut to spec. I see "professionals" run them down with a impact gun at work. Last one I did had a spec off 107 ft/lb only 7 ft/lb more than the lug nuts.

Is the tire tread chopped? Tire noise can sound like a bearing sometimes.

Re: 00' bony se i think, gas milage suffering

Winter blend gas is crap. Add in ethanol and fuel mileage sucks. I wish gas station had to tell you if ethanol is in the fuel, I'd shop around. I bought gas at an Exxon for my 2001 Lesabre and watched the fuel mileage numbers on the dash go down. Got fuel at BP and up it goes. I don't know if it has ...

Re: Code P0420

How long did the new cat last before P0420? Did the shop put on the cat and not check the car for a cause of the failure. Were the old plugs black and fouled?

Re: Misfire . . . AGAIN!

If you can get access to a real scan tool (not just generic OBDII) GM provides a misfire counter, it includes a misfire history. If it just "feels like" a misfire you could have a marginal fuel supply problem causing a lean condition under heavy load, can be done with generic OBDII reader.. Have ...

I see the locked post for RockAuto. Has anyone tried to get the club a discount for Alldata DIY?

Hello from Raleigh NC

Found this site looking for info on a super charger oil change. I'm a Master tech. Been working on 3.8l since they had carburetors. If I can help you just ask.

3.8l Intake failure and why I love it

So far I've bought three cars on the cheap because of the intake failures. Lower gaskets (good ones), new plenum, belt tensioner, serp. belt, new water pump, spark plugs, wire set, thermostat and oil filter. Sent to my door $304.43 at Rock. Example at Carmax 2003 Pontiac Bonneville SLE 4D Sedan $10 ...

Radio Input

Several months ago I bought my wife a 2003 SSEi.
Is there a simple way to do audio in on the Monsoon radio? Not the tape adapter rig.

Re: Oil change advice!!!

I've been an auto tech for years. I use OE Delco filters on my two 3.8l cars. Mobil 1 oil. It's cheap enough to use good products on something as important as oil/filter.
The thing is NEVER EVER NEVER NEVER let someone install a quick lube filter on your car. If you must use a quick lube hand them ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start

I would do a compression test. Your posts sound like it started with a injector #5 leaking down. Fuel/compression/spark The electronics just modify the basics required to run an engine.

Re: motor blew up! literally

Remove the spark plugs, manually turn the crankshaft 2 revolutions, watch for any spewage from cylinders. Look at the tailpipe. Black soot in the pipes on the bumper? The 3.8l don't usually explode from just too much fuel. Spark or valve timing problems are needed to ignite your engine into little ...
