Traction Control doesn't work

Post by Yoshicoby »

Okay.. I think I've found a new project for the ride. I don't think my traction control has worked since I've owned my Bonneville. It makes a sound whenever I lose traction and continues for a few seconds after I regain traction. This isn't normal is it? And it seems like it always comes from the left front? Any suggestions? Thanks!

(hopefully simple)

mine makes noise when it works. i think it's just cuz our cars are around 10 or more years old, so they didn't master quite TC yet.

if it's not working, your dash should have a light that says "traction off" illuminated.

In my experience, the traction control is fairly useless. If you take off on a wet street, it is distracting when it kicks in - I'd be happier to just let the wheel slip and cope with it. And it never helped me if I was stuck on snow or ice. It's too bad you can't easily shut if off and have it stay off. Best solution is limited slip in the transmission, but it's not worth it for me to pursue that on a 16 year old car.

I have no TC on either car any more. I don't like how the system works, it's too expensive to repair either of them, and I'd rather KNOW how the car wil respond rather than get used to TC saving my :booty: then have it fail at a very unpredictable moment.

Either disconnect a wheel speed sensor or two, or disconnect the PMV assembly (large round black twist-lock connector under your airbox). FYI, this will ALSO disable ABS.

For 1996 and up models, traction control is tied to the PCM...so one could still have ABS enabled if traction control was deactivated. However, the PCM will have to be programmed with a DTC delete that is specific to the TC.

Just throwing that out there
