2003 Bonneville SSEI starts occasionally

Post by Joybug1214 »

Bonneville SSEI having issues starting. Occasionally it starts. Have had the battery checked and it has plenty of power, had starter tested and it is good and tried a different starter no luck. Checked starter relay fuse (36 Start1) swapped with another one and didn't work. Tried jiggling key in switch, tried starting in neutral and no luck. Any suggestions of what to try next.Did notice radiator hose collapsing. I am open to any help

Assuming when you say no start you mean it doesn't turn over, jump the signal and power wire on the starter and see if it turns over. If not, it's a bad new starter.

It won't crank over. Hear some clicks under hood and rear seat. Did change starter. Same thing but low and behold it decided to start a few hours ago. No idea wgat we did different. Started 3 times for us. Fingers crossed it continues to crank over

Jump the starter with ignition in run like mentioned if it doesn't start again.

Remember NEW stands for Never Ever Worked when it comes to replacement parts.

Love the NEW definition. It went back to not starting again. Ugh. Battery cables were checked. Will try the jump starting the ignition

So the saga with the Bonneville not starting continues. We can get the engine to crank by using a wire in the start1 relay (#36) but won't turn over. The security light was on so had a guy come out and take care of that problem still won't turn over. We've changed the starter, battery checked, grounds checked. Could it be a fuel pump, ignition coils, fuel injector issue? We're at our wits end and no money to do much more.

Oh. Also pretty sure neutral safety switch is bad. Have read that on this year of car it is an internal switch however mentioned it could be converted to external. Does anyone know if that is true and if so does anyone have instructions or video of how to do this?
